As Ilyien retracted his mind from hers, Sabev began to feel her heart quicken. The panic rise. The knowledge of where they were seeped in the way it should have at the start. But she took a deep breath and steeled herself against it. He was still here. He was still holding her. She had to compose herself. Be able to help. She wasn't a fighter, but she was still a phoenix. She could not let the water cause her fear. Or at the very least, she could not show that fear.
Sabev nodded very slightly. She moved her legs out from under her, making sure that she had physical contact with Ilyien the whole time. Maybe it was absurd, but the touch, just the feel of him there, felt like it was making her stronger. More capable of dealing with this.
The rolling of the waves was doing less harm now. It wasn't just that she was empty, either. Her head was feeling better. Unless she turned it too fast, she could now tell the difference between the movement of the water and the movement of the ship. No wonder she had been so disoriented. They didn't move together. Sabev had always imagined that boats were just an extension of the sea, moving as it told them to move. Now she could feel that the two were at odds.
"Is the door locked?" He'd been able to open the window, which seemed odd. If they were captives, wouldn't that be impossible? Or at the very least, wouldn't the window have bars over it to stop them from getting out? If the door wasn't locked, maybe they weren't being held prisoner.
And why weren't they at least wearing some kind of restraint? She had no shackles on her legs. She could feel no spell wrapping around her.
"If we aren't prisoners here, Ranulf, what are we doing on this boat?" She finished her thought with an actual statement, so he could know where her mind had wandered to.
Sabev was sitting up now, her hand still on his. Holding his fingers tightly. She didn't want to break that contact. She also wasn't entirely sure she could stand up yet. She was going to give this sitting on her own thing a try for a little bit.
