"Yes." He gave a brief nod, a single movement. "I am a psychiatrist with a background in surgical medicine."
It was, of course, more complicated than that, but it got his point across. He knew what he was talking about. That's all she really needed to know at this moment. He was attempting to help his friend, and he knew how best to do it.
"It isn't impossible for Will to grasp the reality of our current situation, but I need to find the best say to ease him into it. I prevented him from seeing the - aliens for now, but I know that it would be difficult at best to continue to do so. I feel that if I can answer whatever questions he might come up with as well as you and anybody else, it would lead us onto the correct path. Being carried around and deposited on other worlds is going to take a toll. I'm sure that it takes a toll on everybody involved. But I will be there for his support."
Hannibal considered a moment a few questions that he had. "How many of you - us - are there? Are there any dangerous individuals that I need to be aware of? Anybody who might try to harm myself or Will?"
Then he thought of something else. "I must apologize. Here I am grilling you for answers and I have not yet introduced myself. I am Doctor Hannibal Lecter."
