At the intersection of one corridor and another, Nanshe stopped running and edged around the corner. It was clear. She glanced behind her -- clear again -- and then stepped into the corridor before her, turning her head as she did. The sense of familiar hummed sharply in her mind, just as another door opened and a figure stepped out.
The collision was gentler than it would've been otherwise, but she staggered back all the same, grabbing whatever was close to her to steady herself.
Familiar faces could seem foreign and strange, when one was not expecting them. She squinted and blinked at the one in front of her. It took a moment for recognition to spin into her eyes.
