It was really hard to stay angry with anyone when Johnny was looking down at her like a kid on Christmas day. She didn't see that look on his face all too often and so it definitely lifted her mood a bit. She laughed softly and took a step closer, studying his lip for a moment before shifting her gaze to meet his.
"I would love that. But for now, let's just stay inside. The great thing about this place? The doors. All the doors to separate us from my crazy-ass family."
The insult was given as much with love as with exasperation. If anyone else called her family anything, they would have had to deal with Mary's temper. But it was okay because she was the one saying it. And crazy aside, she loved them fiercely. Even when she wanted to throttle them.
"How are you feeling?" she asked, not referring to the swollen lip. There was a lot more that had been healing. On the island, he'd been weak but recovering. He seemed better here. A lot better.
