Mary was actually a little surprised that Jo left as easily as she did. The way her mother hurried off roused more than a little bit of suspicions, but she brushed that aside and took a step closer to Johnny, reaching up to stroke his cheek. Which was when she noticed his lips.
She looked up at him and felt a rush of anger.
"Shit. Did she hit you?"
She had a feeling that she knew the answer and her eyes were flashing and she had half a mind to turn and run down the hall to yell at the woman who was more more reminding her of the mom she'd left back in her time. It didn't matter if he'd heal more quickly than most from it, she knew darn well that it still hurt just like it would for anyone and the physical damage wasn't really the point of it anyway.
