Mary laughed softly when Johnny broke the kiss but kept his forehead in contact with hers. She reached up to cup his cheek with her hand. There were a lot of reasons for taking things slowly right now, and she was determined to let him set the pace. For now, she was just going to soak up the fact that their lives weren't currently hanging in the balance and that he hadn't pushed her away, that they seemed to be on the same page for once.
She wanted to hang onto that feeling for a little longer, which meant that she didn't want to stay here and worry about when Jo might return.
"Feel up to a walk?" she asked. "I could show you around the island a bit."
Of course, she wouldn't expect him to be up for it just yet, but it was worth a try.
