Let's just be us. That last word definitely caught her attention and shoved aside some of the other worries that had been plaguing her for now. It even managed to push aside the nightmares for the moment. Mary bit her lip and her smile was a little more genuine.
She reached up and rested her hand on Johnny's cheek.
"Okay," she agreed. "About that... I'm sorry I walked out. I'm sort of emotionally stunted and a bit of a chickenshit when it comes to this sort of thing and I'm sorry."
She sighed.
"I said that already, didn't I?"
There was a hesitation in her expression, nerves that were there even as she waited to see if her apology was accepted. To see if he was still willing to pick up where they'd left off before things had gone so terribly, badly, wrong that it could almost be a dark comedy if it were happening in some movie or TV show somewhere.
