Johnny stood and grasped the bottle that was just on the other side of the bar. On his way back to sitting, he grabbed a second glass and placed it in front of Jo. He poured her the whiskey not knowing if she wanted it, not really caring. Just needing to do something. Anything.
"I kissed her." He said it quietly. "We went out the other night. There's ... nevermind. It's convoluted. I can tell you later. The end of it is that I kissed her because I could't properly vocalize what I was trying to say. She said we needed to take time to think about things. I tried to make her stay, I should have run after her. Told her to take the apartment, she was out the door so fast..."
Johnny shook his head. "She said she'd be back this morning." He knew that he was repeating that line. He didn't know what else to say. "I know she can take care of herself, I'm not stupid. But she's not really the sort to just not come back. Or at least check in. And to not show for her shift?"
He was really worried. It made him babble. Johnny looked at Jo, and waited.
