"Kai," Rayne repeated very quietly, moving with silence as her companion once the woman had seated herself. It was a strange thing to do, to turn her back on Rayne. Few people ever dared, for a variety of reasons. Perhaps Kai knew some of them, and was choosing to negate them with her actions. Perhaps it was a show of trust. Her words seemed to want to lay out that foundation.
That was all for the good, if it were indeed genuine. "I'm not quite familiar with what you mean," she said carefully. Her voice was closer, because she'd moved across the street. This conversation was not to be shouted through the dark. "I was told about the meeting, but I only heard certain parts. Why do you believe we are here to assist each other? It would seem that your nature and mine put us at odds."
