The distance put between them, though small, eased her concern some. At least the woman was listening to her instead of trying to rush forward and help. That was a good thing. An excellent thing, really.
"No, I don't think so." Kai looked up. "You were at the diner with somebody I know. That's why I don't want to hurt you."
She took a deep breath and finally stood completely upright again. She didn't pick up her bag though. The knife was in it, and she didn't want to bring it closer to herself, make it easier to use.
"You haven't hurt anyone, but I know what you are. You should know what I am, too, so you can keep yourself safe. I'm a hunter. I have some kind of innate power inside of me that was wakened recently, and it drives me to find and kill things like you. But that man was alive. That man was alive and you're a part of our group."
Kai didn't think that her powers as a Hunter needed to be kept secret. Jack had never said anything along those lines.
