"I think the clone of Electric City was to lull us into a false sense of security. If anything was our grace period, it was the last planet. We got everything we needed, all the way up to the houses." Johnny looked at the stranger, even though the idea of a grace period was logical and made sense, it still didn't really fit with the rest.
But how would the guy have gotten so much in so little time otherwise?
"If you've gotten through the gist of what's going on here, I think it's time for him to answer questions. See if you can't get something more. I don't know what there might be, but if it's there, I'm sure you'll find it."
Johnny's gaze shifted around the room again, taking in the people and how happy they all seemed to be, despite the fact that Mary wasn't paying them attention, and there was a man in their midst who shouldn't have been there. Maybe this planet didn't see the racial tension that Earth had. He hadn't really thought to try to pay attention to that before now. Maybe he thought it should be there because that's the way it was where he'd come from. There had been differences in the human-like aliens on the last two planets, so why couldn't this be the difference for here?
"Don't try to rush anything. I've got your tables. Nobody's asked for anything anyway. Like they're all content to sit sipping that one drink."
