That warning was different from simple jealous grumbling. Mary knew him well enough to know the difference. She didn't glance over at Lucas, even though she was tempted to. The brief feeling of unease that she'd felt turning her back to him came back with Johnny's voiced concern.
Mary stepped around the bar for just a second. She stood on tiptoes and kissed him on the cheek before she ducked back to the other side.
"I'm always careful. And besides, you've got my back."
She wasn't being flip, but she doubted that any creature or even person that tried something in here would get very far with the two of them playing defense.
