Mary knew what jealousy sounded and looked like on Johnny. She'd seen it on her Johnny a time or two, and she'd seen it on this version of Johnny with Evan. Which was why she gave him a warning look when she noticed the little hint of displeasure around his mouth and the bit of flatness in his tone.
"He's new and he wants me to tell him what to expect. Would have been nice if there'd been someone to do the same for us in the last place."
She avoided saying planet too loudly because this place... really didn't seem like the type of place that would take discussions of aliens or anything else that they normally dealt with well. Even if Mary was pretty sure that these people weren't actually human, but just human-looking.
She caught his hand briefly when the drinks were slid over. There was a gentle squeeze, a reassurance of sorts. Just as quickly, she took her hand back and slipped away to deliver the drinks that he'd given to her and explain to her clientele that this round was on the man who'd just come in and that she would be busy for just a bit.
Most women might have pointed out that a man who had made no promises had no right getting jealous. Mary wasn't most women. She knew that he needed time to deal with his losses before he was ready to get back into anything, and she was willing to wait. Even if waiting meant years. She wasn't going to overtly point that out because she didn't want him to feel rushed, but she was planning to wait all the same.
She returned to the bar to collect the rest of the drinks and couldn't help but look over at Johnny.
"It won't take that long to explain things to him," she said quietly. "I'll be back to work soon enough."
