Mary was a little surprised at how easy that had been too. She bit her tongue to avoid making a comment about how women could pour drinks just as well as a man could. A job was a job. And when that job came with a furnished apartment? Well, even she knew when to bite her tongue and just go with it.
And then Johnny used that nickname. Mare. Her heart almost stopped at the memories that that brought back.
For just a brief moment, a mixture of emotions chased themselves across her face as she looked up at Johnny. Finally, she got a handle on them and answered the question.

She wrapped her arm around him and rested her head on his shoulder, really trying to sell the part of newlywed wife as she turned her attention to the owner of the bar.
