The Researcher shook her head, she had expected more from these people. If they'd been familiar with her specific set of facial features and the body language her kind used, they would all be able to tell how exasperated she was with the lot of them.
"You are expected to do nothing aside from live as you would wherever you are put. Survive and thrive. You were not asked because we chose not to. Subjects aware of their predicament would not have provided the initial data that we needed. You cannot escape. You cannot die. In fact, we saved some of you from death, and others from floating aimlessly through time and space. Some of you were meant for other worlds and did not quite make it there, or were booted back out for whatever reason."
The Researcher shifted and spread her arms in a matter of fact way. "I have already told you that we chose each of you to be here. Which means we have done a terrific amount of study on each of you. There is no possibility of underestimating anybody here, now or in the future. We know all there is to know about you, some things that you do not even know yourselves. All the proper precautions have been put in place. We have ways to subdue, restrain, or eradicate each of you. We have already proven that we can pick you out of your own lives and place you where we wish without your being aware of it. Why you would doubt our ability to do anything more is beyond me."
The last was said with an air of condescension.
"I cannot personally read your mind." She looked toward Eleni. "But the Cerebrals can. They then provide me with the information directly." The alien looked at the Doctor. "Time no longer exists for your group. You may find yourselves in the future or in the past, or what you call your present. The fact that some of you happen to be of the same time and world is merely coincidence. And there are, indeed, some among you who are nothing more than human.
"We do not intend you any harm. If we wished to harm you, it would have happened already, don't you think? If we wanted you dead, we would not have moved you to the first Earth Clone, nor would we have moved you here. Why waste resources on transferring subjects that we just intend to kill? You, the Transports, are dear to us.
"Which brings me to another point. This world has become to volatile for you to stay on. We placed you here to see how you would interact with the night creatures. You have done well, but it seems that the night creatures have grown more hostile since you've begun to kill them. They are starting to alter their habits and find ways into houses where before they would adhere to the rules of closed doors. Further action on your parts may endanger the people of this planet more than we can allow for."
She ignored all the questions about why. She had not been authorized to share that information by the others. They had a democratic system, and she would not go against it.
