The alien nodded once to acknowledge that they were all going to stand down and listen to what was being said. It had expected some questions to pop up, and filed them in order.
"First of all, you are correct. Those here that look human are not exactly human. But you are the aliens here. This is a different planet than your own, and they are this planet's equivalent of humans. Secondly, I am my species' female. You will not be able to tell the difference between us by looking, however. We do not mind being called it by your kind because your attempts to guess would be foolish and futile."
The alien tilted its head and continued. "Mine is not the only species involved in this, however. We are one of many. It has taken us a very long time to form our confederacy. To ... decide on a plan of action. We all have our own languages, but you would be incapable of learning any of them. So we have given ourselves names in your common English. My species is referred to as Researchers. There are also the Mechanicals, the Elementals, the Strangers, the Cerebrals, the Humanoids, the Saturninity, the Greys, the Fetchers and Keepers, Medicals, Serpentine, Feline and the Shadowmen. Each plays a different role. Undoubtedly you will come across all of us at one point or another. My species is responsible for choosing who will be brought into the fold, and where you all will be placed."
The Researcher gestured to the group and looked at each. "You were chosen for a reason, and brought to this planet for a reason. Perhaps that will come later. We did not choose to speak to you before now because we wanted to see what you would all do. How you would adjust. To see if our experiment was worth continuing."
Something like a shrug happened.
"So far, we have decided to keep going. Which is why I am here. To lend you some guidance and grant a few answers to ease your minds. You will not be going back to your own planets and times soon. While you are with us, you will also not age any further than you have already."
