Max was already moving the moment he felt the shift in the room's mood. It wasn't that he was precognitive, but the moment something popped into this room that was different, those gathered were going to go on the defensive. He didn't fault them; he had to push down the need to pull his own sidearm. He'd succeeded but only after touching the gun through his trench to make sure he was still armed.
He ignored the thing that was causing the trouble. He just moved for Eleni and her jackass of a brother. He did glance at Kai, but he did it only to make sure she wasn't killing anyone quite yet.
"It's going to be okay." He said softly to Eleni once he reached her, whether he believed it or not.
