Mary grimaced. Johnny was right. There was very little chance that Rob wouldn't make the connection at some point.
"Yeah, it does," she agreed.
She sighed and started walking forward. Standing there wasn't going to help. Talking it to death wasn't going to help. Drinking until they didn't care anymore wasn't going to help either, but it was the most attractive option right now.
"I don't know what they're going to do when they find out," she said quietly. She didn't look up. "You know, if you wanted to keep your distance, I'd understand."
She still wondered why he was sticking around. She knew why she was, but it seemed like every time they started finding a balance, things just got more screwed up and more complicated. He didn't have the history that she had, so why hadn't he just walked away and done away with the complications?
Of course, she was pretty sure she knew the answer to that as well. He felt responsible for how she was feeling. And he was loyal. When someone earned his trust, he didn't desert them. No matter what.
