Mary didn't even bother to resist the impulse to gape, just a bit. She did take a nice long drink and then she laughed. She didn't mean to, but it was just so ridiculous. She finally managed to get the laughter under control and sighed and stood up. She didn't know why, but sitting just didn't seem the thing to do right now. So instead she headed over to the counter and leaned against it.
"Well, he didn't get me, so maybe not every woman."
She sighed, any trace of laughter gone. There were a lot of other things that she wanted to say but didn't. She might have said that she wasn't planning on moving on to another guy any time soon but she didn't want to make him feel bad for not being ready, and she didn't want to promise she'd wait around because she was a hunter and she never knew what tomorrow would bring. She didn't have a potential eternity like he did. She had today, this moment, and that was as far as she could plan right now. But with how she felt? Yeah, there probably wouldn't be any guys like Evan or anyone else for quite awhile.
She didn't say any of that because she wasn't nearly drunk enough for this conversation and neither was he, she supposed.
