Mary blinked in surprise and just stared for a moment.
"Did you really just ask me that?"
She wasn't sure whether to be amused, encouraged, or frustrated. If he was jealous, well that was bordering on blind because last she'd checked, he hadn't wanted her in that way. She wasn't mad about that because she could accept that he wasn't anywhere near ready, but she also thought that he couldn't have it both ways. She might choose to wait around forever, but that didn't mean he could expect it.
She tore her eyes away and instead focused on the bottom of her coffee cup. She took a sip before answering.
"I thought he was you for a minute there. Waking up in bed with someone when I was half asleep..." she bit her lip and shrugged. "Old habits die hard."
