Evan had heard the knock at the door, but since it didn't keep happening, he'd decided to ignore it. He had his phone plugged in and he needed to get out of the house. Thinking that Mary would still be by the front door, he opted to take the stairs that led to the kitchen. He'd also be able to grab an apple or something on the way out.
He hit the bottom step just as they walked into the room, their voices hitting his ears though their conversation didn't settle into him right away. Male, and they were being too familiar with one another for it to be somebody who she'd just met.
His eyes scanned the guy and took in the cowboy outfit. It seemed vaguely familiar, though he couldn't place why it would be. Then he glanced at Mary. The look that she was giving him. Her side of the conversation filtered through, as did the jealousy in her tone.
"Ah." Evan smiled. "So this is Johnny."
He didn't give either of them a chance to answer. Just went to the fridge, grabbed a piece of the fruit inside and waved.
"I'm running off. I'll call if I'm going to be later than sundown." He said to Mary, then he pushed through the door they'd just used and went for a walk.
