Dean was watching her, just hovering near the driver's side with the door open.
She was asking about the devil's trap.
"Not to keep them away, exactly. More to trap them if they get in the car, or the trunk back there. So I can kill them."
Devil's traps weren't wards against demons. They just made nice tidy jail cells out of anything you put 'em on. The floor, the ceiling...
... the car...
"Are you smuh... are you smelling the tires?"
Dean sighed.
He walked around to where she was and opened the passenger side door for her.
"Look. Once we find some people that I recognize, you can sniff any part of the car you want for as long as you want, okay? I think we should get going."
Maybe it was just a street, but he'd feel better once he found Jo. Or Mary. Or hell, even Phaedra, if that's who Sympathy really saw. Somebody. Somebody familiar.
Even that weird kid from the diner that yelled at him for touching the Call Box.
