Confrontations (Evan/Simon log)
Simon watched the woman walk away from him, annoyed by her. Annoyed that she stank of Evan Vang. Annoyed that once again, the puppy was involved in his life somehow without an invitation to it. The Tower had caused the intrusion before, and now it was due to some woman. A stranger. Somebody that Simon had no connection to and no obligation toward.
He decided that he was going to seek out the infant, if nothing else than to let him know that there was knowledge about an illicit meeting with somebody who was not Niklas Wright. It was a tidbit that Simon enjoyed quite a lot. Considering that he knew how Evan felt about Niks and how she felt in return. This would be a weapon against the boy. He still would not tell Niks, but Evan didn't need to know that fact.
All Simon really wanted to do was hurt the artifact hunter.
It was easy to find the lad, holed up in his office. Right where he should be. His desk covered in busywork. Things that the fairy had sent down to him. Not that the boy would ever know. He didn't have any clue that Simon had that kind of pull in the Tower. The fairy didn't knock, just went in, closing the door behind him. He moved through the space, looking at the objects within.
---
Evan sighed.
He watched Simon carefully, not saying a thing. He didn't know what the fairy was doing here, and he was sure that once he found out, he wasn't going to be any happier about it. There was a definite air of irritation that surrounded the ancient creature. Simon had yet to even really look at him, and Evan got the feeling that the ire was focused in his direction.
He kept his mouth shut, wanting Simon to be the first to speak, lest he say something stupid to further enrage the man.
---
"Seems I can't go anywhere without you being forced into my life, Evan Vang." Simon picked up a little bauble and then set it down again. He could have easily taken it, pocketed it, and Evan likely wouldn't have said a thing. But he was in no mood for things right now. Shiny or otherwise. He wanted words.
"I've run into a little acquaintance of yours."
---
"You have?" Evan knew a few people around Electric City now. He had no idea who Simon might have met. It caused an unease in him, but not because he thought he had done something wrong. More it was the thought of what Simon might have done to them, just knowing that they were associated with somebody that he hated.
---
"Mmmm. Yes. Friendly and chatty, that one. I learned a great deal. Some very interesting things, one in particular."
He moved to the chair and sat down, looking at Evan and not hiding his feelings in the least. He didn't care if Evan knew that he was sick to death of dealing with him, it was the truth. If the artifact hunter knew, perhaps he would work harder to stay clear, or perhaps he would even try to find a way to be sent away completely.
"Lovely to look at, I have to admit. Covered in tattoos to keep herself safe. Reminded me much of you, though I didn't quite hate her. I could have, perhaps, found her amusing if she hadn't had your sent all over her."
---
Evan sat straighter in his chair.
"Jack?" He frowned. "You met Jack?"
That was bad. He hoped that Jack was still alright. He felt bad that he hadn't warned her that there was a fairy cavorting around in Electric City and to do everything she could to stay the hell away from him.
"You didn't hurt her, did you?"
---
"Jack. What an interesting name. Thank you. No, she is fine. I let her go on her merry way. Funny thing, though, that smell on her."
Simon sat forward a bit more, studying the infant before him. Waiting for it to sink in what he'd said - twice now - what it meant.
---
"Shit." Simon hadn't known her name. Now the fairy had more knowledge of her. More of a connection with her. He would be able to find her somewhat easily, more likely than not. He'd just placed Jack more firmly in the path of a creature she wouldn't know what to do with.
Then the other bit settled into his brain. He looked up at Simon, unsure of himself.
---
"How do you think Niklas would take it, Evan, if she knew that you had been out there with another? You two act as if you aren't more than forced partners, and yet I have seen it on the both of you. I know there is more. You covet Niks, but you still went out and took somebody else to bed."
It was cruel, and it was meant to be.
"How hurt do you think she would be to know? To hear? She might not show it to you directly, but you would know how she felt because of the way that she would begin to treat you. The subtle things."
---
Evan had guilt over the night with Jack. He had since he'd gotten home that morning, as soon as he was awake enough to really think about any of it. He wasn't tied to Niks, he didn't belong to her and she didn't belong to him. It had still felt like a betrayal on his part.
And now... now there was something more, as well. There was a sudden lurch in his heart and he was convinced that she could never know. A longing sprung up for Niks to think of him as perfect, unsullied. Evan couldn't explain it.
"You're going to tell her. This is exactly what you've been waiting for."
---
"Actually, no. I am not."
Simon sat back again, shaking his head. His eyes never left Evan's.
"I don't wish to be the one that causes her that kind of agony. I will not be the messenger boy for your little ... tryst. I just want you to know that I know of it."
---
Evan felt like he was being held under water.
This was something that Simon would hold over his head for who knew how long. He would know, every time that he looked at the fairy, that the fairy was plotting some way to use it as an advantage. And really, just the fact that he knew was one. He knew that Evan wouldn't want Niks to find out, he had to have. Or he wouldn't be here now, making this veiled threat.
"What do you want?"
---
"I'm not sure yet. But I'll let you know as soon as I've made up my mind." Simon's smile was not nice. "You're such a clever little puppy to realize that you wouldn't get out of this untouched."
He decided to not bring up the Dreamlands. It seemed to him that Evan had no idea that he'd been there, and Simon did not wish to encourage the boy to try to go back. He would hope beyond hope that nothing would cause the way to open to him again. That he would have the one sojourn and that would be the end.
"Perhaps you should return to your Jack. She's very well suited to you. Like a matched set, you are."
---
"Is that..." Evan frowned. "Is that what you're asking for in exchange for not telling Niks?"
He was confused. There wasn't much of a threat there if Evan did something like that, was there? Was there just something that he wasn't seeing?
---
"No, by all means, no. It's merely a suggestion."
Simon stood. He made his way to the door before he stopped and took in the artifact hunter. Poor, confused, unsure Evan Vang. He would have to give it some thought, what he wanted from the infant. But it wouldn't be something that would force the boy out of Niks' life completely, lest he cause her to hate him as well.
