"He is more than a cat, and he should be more than a cat. He is not a cat in a boy's body, and he should recognize that. He should understand that. The fact that he will not is simple stubbornness. It is not feline stubbornness. It is not merely in that particular bit of DNA. He can be much more, and learning a few manners would not hurt him nor change him. It will make him more useful and comfortable in society. Letting him have free run of the world as he sees fit will only get him killed or housed in a facility. Or..." Her eyes narrowed in irritation and frustration. "Or on that damned pillow as if he were nothing more than a pet. A toy to be played with. He is a sentient being far more than a cat, and he should act like one. This will help him in the world. You know it as well as I."
She glared at the fairy before glaring at the cat. They belonged together. Her hands rested on the desk, and she was rather happy that she'd managed to put it between herself and the fairy.
"Evan Vang is a man who knows his mind. I never thought I would find myself defending him, certainly not to you, but he is a man who does not need me or anyone to give him orders. The fact that he is caught up with the damned Tower is what it is, but he does not sit and wait for me to pay him attention or give him something to do." That last bit may have been a technical lie. Evan couldn't do much without a mission from Tower, and she was usually the one who passed them on to the artifact hunter.
"And, for your information, if you think that threatening him with death will keep me from fucking his bloody brains out, you're wrong. You will not tell people in my life that they are not allowed to touch me. It is my choice who I will have congress with, whatever that congress may be, not yours." She slammed the desk top harder than she intended, but the only sign of it was the hint of a wince, nothing more. "Am I understood?"
