"He's not a werecreature. Not like how you and I are used to." Simon had the file in his desk, actually. And would likely give it to Niks before she left. But he didn't mind telling her now what she wanted to know.
"There seems to be some genetic anomaly. A gene that the scientists here have never seen previously. They called it a mutation. For the most part, like every other human wandering around, just with a slight ... addition."
His other hand reached up to further wrap her in an embrace. For all their contact, they rarely had moments like this, so Simon was going to soak it up while he could. One of them would eventually pull away for some reason. She would become irritated, or he would. Or something else. They could never just be for very long, it seemed.
"It seems in his world, this isn't a rare thing at all, but the mutations very rarely duplicate. He says he's known a boy who could become a dog much like he can become a cat, but has otherwise met no other animals. Maybe some with animal features, but that's where it ends. He's got a mid-point too. I don't know if he knows of it yet, the testing surely didn't state anything about it, but I can see it in him. Half cat, half boy. Vicious creature, that. Strong, and dangerous."
