It hurt being away from Johnny. Losing him each time she woke up someplace without him, wondering when and if she'd see him again. The extended time apart had almost been enough to convince her that it wasn't worth opening her heart up to anyone. That maybe she could just shut everyone out and move on.
And then she saw him and was wrapped up in his arms and she remembered exactly why it was all so worth it. All the pain and loss was worth it for this. She buried her face into his shoulder and held him tightly.
She didn't say anything for quite awhile. She just held on. But eventually, the cold air got to her a bit. She pulled away just enough to let her hand slip down to his with a little tug.
"Come on," she murmured. She wasn't going through the pretenses of even asking if he wanted to go back to the place where she'd woken up. She trusted that he wanted to hang on as tightly as she did. And they were both better off inside where it was warm.
