Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
Current location:Hogwarts Entrance Hall
Entry tags:!incomplete

Who: Amos Diggory and OPEN.
What: Amos has gone for a random wander, and someone ends up joining him...
When: After dinner and before patrols on Tuesday evening.
Where: The Entrance Hall / the grounds
Summary: Rating tbd.

Standing up from the Hufflepuff table and stretching his back, Amos quickly scanned the Great Hall to see where his patrol partner was. They were not due to begin their rounds for a good half hour at least, but he was a creature of habit, and he usually liked to go and find her so that they could arrange the specifics of where to meet and see if there was anything in particular to look out for. Tonight, however, he couldn't see her anywhere.

Assuming she had left early, he walked quickly down the gap between the Hufflepuff and Ravenclaw tables, idly pondering the idea of fetching his broom and going for a quick fly - though by the time he got to the heavy oak doors, he had changed his mind. Heading straight when leaving the hall, he walked towards the doors that led out to the grounds. Perhaps he would spend a few minutes looking for the signs of injured creatures that the Black girl had mentioned and stretch his legs outside before patrols...

Tiberius was hustling as fast as he could back from the forest and into his dormitory, which thankfully resided of the first floor. His face was covered in sweat and his hair had mud and twigs haphazardly entwined within his slight shag. Sure, he was sore and a little roughed up from this latest bout of flying failures. But he knew he had to get back soon, and before anyone saw.

The story had worked since his sixth year. Using it only twice, no one thought anything was the matter when Tiberius had returned to the castle in a rugged quidditch kit after a solo practice on the pitch. However, he felt a great dead of dread in his confidence in selling the lie this time around. His clothes were not only ragged and stained, they were cut in several places and had burrs covering them from the neck down: all things not usually found on or near the pitch.

His run in with Amos was not met kindly.

Amos and Tiberius had been friends ever since Tiberius' first year (which would have been Amos' first). Both fun loving Hufflepuffs, they both shared a certain admiration for Quidditch, flying, and nature. Tiberius shared much of what he learned and what he wanted with Amos. He had even confided during Tiberius' fifth year that he wished not to go into the ministry and would rather explore the wilds of the earth, something no one else ever would hear. But he didn't share everything with such a close friend...

"Ah! Amos! What are you doing here?", he opened with. He had decided that if asked anything, he would claim he was searching for the thing killing the forest creatures, but was worried about making it believable due to his current nerves and shock.

Not fully alert at first, for Amos was still half glancing around in case his patrol partner appeared from nowhere, he did not notice the state his friend was in when he first spoke. "Oh, you know, just going for a bit of a stroll outside before my patrol tonight. You?"

As he said this, his gaze locked more fully on Tiberius's torn and damaged clothing. Amos blinked in surprise, for he had never seen his mate look so, well, terrible.

"Bloody hell mate, you look awful" he said with concern. "What happened? Piss off a Hippogriff or something?"

He thought about humoring his friend about the Hippogriff, but he knew he had to concentrate on not messing up his alibi.

"Heh, well, I wish it was a Hippogriff. No, I was just..er, searching the forest for whatever Andromeda claimed was killing after a rough go at the pitch."

He knew his story didn't add up, but he was hoping that this was the end of the prying. The, he thought (and spoke)

"Speaking of which, Mossy, I have been practicing this new strategy for beating that I think will put those Slytherins out of the competition. Do you want to try them out now?"

Shit, he thought, I should have just left him alone. Why would I want to go back to the pitch like this? Merlin, I just need to get out of this situation, and fast

Hang on, Amos thought to himself, confused. Hadn't it been Bellatrix who had given the warning about something killing animals out on the grounds? And then she'd said nothing about the forest, AND said woods were out of bounds to students, something Tiberius well knew... something didn't add up.

Amos frowned.

"You sure it was the forest, mate? You look kind of... roughed up."

Amos wasn't buying it.
If he ran, there would be a lot of explaining to do. If he didn't run, and instead stayed, he would have a lot of explaining to do. Tiberius bit the bullet.

"Yeah, I decided that, well, that maybe whatever was killing the animals, maybe it lived in the forest. And as I was practicing on the pitch, I decided, hey, this is a convenient time, why don't I just ride my broom over the forest and check it out? But being over the forest is not like going through the forest, so I swept down into it, where you can imagine there were many trees, so.....yeah....it was the forest. And I am a little roughed up...."

The only issue with having to come up with something on the spot was that in these instances, Tiberius spoke volumes before stopping to think. His only savior in this respect is that every inconsistency he spewed he was instantly aware of afterwards. Tiberius knew he probably should leave within the next few seconds.

"So, anyways, I'm real beat. Get it? .........
So I, er, think I'm going to head to dinner to grab some food."

Amos still wasn't convinced, that was for sure.

Amos had known Tiberius long enough to know that what he was doing now was displaying classic signs of nervousness. He'd carried on talking, was anything but casual, and something just seemed... off.

Shrugging his shoulders slightly, Amos headed further on his way. "If you insist" he said, before turning and looking at Tiberius over his shoulder. "But I do know you're full of shit."

Panic and paranoia spread through Tiberius like a lightning bolt.

"What do you mean?" he challenged, with a tone probably too non-understanding to be believable.

While waiting for a reply, Tiberius proceeded to overanalyze any and everything that was said or not said and was done and not done.

What does he know?, he thought. I know my story was shit, but why does he make a point out of it? I mean, we are like best friends, but still I don't know why he's so interested. I'm fine. He has nothing to worry about. Unless he's worrying about y well being, which is only half-founded. I may be a little beat up, but this is nothing like that bludger second year. Unless he is worried for my sake in a non-physical sense. In which case, the only explanation is that he must know I'm a

His thought was broken by Amos' reply.

"Hello?" Amos said with an almost sarcastic little wave. "Earth to Tiberius?" he asked, using his waving hand to gesture up and down at Tiberius' clothes. "That is what I mean. You weren't looking for poisoned creatures, and you know it."

Amos knew nothing about what Tiberius had actually been doing, but he knew when his friend was lying to him, and frankly, the pretence was starting to piss him off more than a little bit.

Well, he thought, I could tell him now, I could lie, I could leave without another word, or I could let him know that I'll tell him later

"To be perfectly honest, I was looking for poisoned creatures. It is difficult for me to explain my appearance right now, but....er....would you mind meeting me outside the owlery tonight after curfew? I have to go now though. I'll explain everything then."

And Tiberius left the hall, feeling awful that he had tried so hard to lie to his friend, but feeling worse about the impending consequences of his confession.
