Characters: Edgar Bones & Patricia Trish Fells
Setting: Tuesday, 12 October, around 10 P.M., different parts of the castle.
Content: NSFW, foul language a possibility.
Summary: Trish and Ed go patrolling while being their amusing and adorable selves. Discussions of their bet, Trish's choice of male suitors and Halloween costume choices.

Out of all the responsibilities that came with being Head Boy, patrolling wasn't Ed's favorite. When Ed thought about why he had such a disliking towards patrolling he could pinpoint it on his partner. Felicity Yaxley wasn't his favorite person in the world, hell, he doubted that she was anybody's favorite person, so when was forced to patrol with her it was a forever ending battle trying to convince himself not the hex her. Though, tonight Ed was happy to patrol. It meant spending time with his best mate and possibly docking points off some smart mouthed fifth years, which both seemed promising. And as much as Ed said that being Head Boy didn't affect him, it honestly did. He loved a title that only allowed him to help people out more than he had in his previous years before being a prefect. Besides, it was always something that he could bring up in an argument, he never hesitated to remind anybody that it was him Professor Dumbledore had chosen.

He was a little early but he found himself fleeing from his dormitory because Tiberius was talking his ear off. He knew the bloke meant well but sometimes he proved to be a little too talkative -- and that was saying something when it was coming from Edgar Bones, the bloke that always had something to say. After a little coaxing and bribing on his behalf towards Yaxley, she finally let up and allowed Trish to swap shifts with her. Maybe that was another reason why he was particularly early this evening. He entered the common room, his eyes searching the room for Trish. After a good minute or so he moved towards the couch that was positioned towards the front of the room and sat down as his eyes lingered on the honey flavored toffees that sat on the coffee table. After looking around briefly, to ensure no one would catch him, he nicked one and popped it into his mouth. One wouldn't hurt, besides, who ever was stupid enough to leave sweets lying around shouldn't expect anything less than a few nicked sweets.

Trisha had never experienced the responsibilities of Head Girl firsthand, but considering she rarely left Ed's side she liked to believe she had a proper taste of part of what it meant. It wasn't a task she herself was cut out for, but her best made managed to really hold his own in the spotlight. Of course there were times he wondered if the Headmaster truly knew what he was doing appointing Ed that role, but not once did Trish waver. She couldn't imagine anyone more perfect as Head Boy. Ed didn't let a power trip consume him, unlike some prefects Trish had worked with in the past. He was down to earth and genuinely caring of others, provided they paid everyone the respect that was only common courtesy. Ed was also fantastic at sticking up for those who were bullied, which honestly was a daily occurrence at Hogwarts. Just earlier that afternoon Trish had fallen victim to an anonymous blood elitist's nonsense. Initially she thought she could stand up to it well enough on her own, but as time went on and the comments continued, particularly as other students got involved, she found herself more and more discouraged. Though Trish was incredibly grateful for the swell of support she'd received from Sirius, Merwyn, James, and even her best mate, it just solidified the fact her ridicule had become a public spectacle. That aside, the more the anonymous individual wrote, the more Trish realized it was truly going to be an issue once again this year. She had a hard time stomaching such behavior, and as much as she'd put on a brave, calm front in spite of it all, she was at a state of unrest following the comments. She had a brief bout of tears, only a few but tears nonetheless, and then sent an owl home just to check in on her parents--particularly her father. Once that was sorted, Trish headed to the third floor bathroom on her way back from the owlery. She didn't want her best friend, or anyone else for that matter, bumping in to her in such a messy state.

Once she'd reached the still life painting leading to the common room, she stopped for a second to take in a deep breath. It was her physical attempt to maintain her resolve. Trish shook out her arms as if casting the worries and concerns from her body, and finally she walked through the portrait hole. She spotted Ed's curly head of hair almost immediately after entering into the yellow-clad common room. Forcing a smile, Trish snuck up behind the couch. Before Ed knew what hit him, she'd wrapped her arms around his neck from behind and placed a kiss on his cheek. Such behavior was just the norm for the two, so it seemed appropriate enough. Besides, Trish needed to really strive toward keeping a collected exterior, particularly considering her eyes still had blotchy red remnants of skin from the previous tears. Once Trish straightened up again, she slipped around to the front of the couch to help herself to a piece of toffee, assuming it was Ed's considering he appeared to be sucking on one himself. After all, what was his was hers, right? Smiling again, Trish reached for Ed's hand. "Ready?"

Ed sat there for a while, making his way through the bag of toffees that he originally promised himself that he would only take one. However, he was pretty sure he was on his fifth. Maybe it was a habit, maybe it was something that he was doing subconsciously, while his mind wandered on his best mate. Earlier, things on the journal had gotten out of hand. Shots that were aimed Trisha's way were bang out of order. They were out of order when the first started occurring last year but now? They were just starting to piss him off. He made a mental note to speak to Yaxley about the use of Dictoquills in the Slytherin dungeons. Ed wasn't completely sure who it was behind the quill but it would be daft to not point the finger Slytherin's way. Felicity Yaxley wasn't the kindest of students but she was Head Girl for a reason and taking care of the student body was apart of her job. She wasn't necessarily the most open when it came to Muggle borns or all that nonsense but she was very proper so she didn't believe in using names like 'Blood traitor' or the 'M' word. So he was pretty certain she'd help him out by looking into it. If all else failed he'll just go around hexing people until they loosened their tongues. Head Boy or not.

He fiddled with the toffee wrappers, crinkling them as he waited for Trish. He was rather restless, hoping Trish wasn't taking the comments to heart like she did everything else. Ed felt Trish wrap her arms around him and he forced a smile, trying to put all of his thoughts towards the back of his mind. Ed embraced her arms that were wrapped gently around his neck. He let go as she pulled away and presented herself in front of him. He forced another smile, trying to asses her mood before he grabbed her hand and pulled himself up from the couch. "I'm always ready, Chuckles." He said as the moved towards the portrait hole that lead them into one of the corridors on the basement floor.

Ed never tread lightly when speaking to anyone, especially his best mate. He wasn't going to hold back, no matter what was on his mind. "Are you okay? Don't worry about the twat. I'll find them okay?" He said quickly and reassuringly, looking down at Trish as they walked.

Once Ed had made it to his feet, Trish released her grip on his hand. To say she hadn't let the recent attack on her journal go to her head would be a lie. She tried to pass it off as nothing when under the ever-watchful eyes of the student body, but that didn't mean everything was ok. Quite the opposite really. Every attack against her, or anyone with muggle lineage for that matter, hit her where it hurt. Trish couldn't help but regress back to last year when she was harassed by that group of unknown students for her father's interactions in the muggle embassy. Never would that behavior cause her to be embarrassed of her family, but it certainly hurt. A good cry seemed to do the trick, though, because when she actually smiled at Ed's comment it was genuine. Muted when compared to Trish's usual bubbly self, but real all the same. "I'm fine," she reassured Ed, nudging against him with her upper torso as they made their way out into the basement corridor. "Don't worry about it. I'm sure it's just a waste of time trying to find them at this point. The person doesn't want to be found."

Trish kept her eyes on her feet as she continued down the corridor, only looking up when those returning to the dorms would call out to her or give a wave. She was thankful they weren't heading in the direction of the Slytherin common room so early in their shift. The fewer she encountered, the more comfortable she'd be as a whole. When Trish's eyes caught Ed's again, she smiled once more. "What did you bribe Felicity with to make this night possible?" It was a bit of well-needed best mate time to be sure. The two of them had a great deal to discuss, anything from costumes for the ball to that ridiculous list of suitors Ed had compiled for her. "Should I be saving up to send her a fruit basket or something?"

Ed rolled his eyes as Trish nudged him. He knew her well enough to know better than that, ever since shit hit the fan last year it had become a touchy subject for Trish and it always proved to hit her where it hurts. "You don't have to lie, you know? I know you. Everything gets to you." he said concerned. He didn't care about what Trish said, he was going to look into it. No matter how pointless it would be because it would just prove to be a failure, he'd still dig around. The purist twats were starting to get on his last nerve and he wasn't sure how much longer he could act in a Head Boy manner about it. Soon, he would just start hexing random Slytherins in the corridor and he didn't care what the consequences were. Ever since the semester started things had gotten more intense, especially regarding the purist nonsense. Ed really didn't understand why someone's blood would matter, they all attended the same school, they all had the ability to do the right thing and the wrong thing, they were all human.

They walked down the corridors quite slowly with Ed pushing her lightly every so often with his shoulder, only looking up when he heard someone call for either Trish or himself. He allowed himself to smile at Trish's comment. Felicity was actually okay with him switching, as long as he agreed to stop calling her Fee. The reaction that belonged to the head girl every time he called her 'Fee' was priceless. "Oh, I didn't sacrifice too much, apart from my amusement. I had to promise I'll stop calling her Fee. Though, surprisingly she was glad to swap. I mean who wouldn't want to patrol with me?" He asked playfully, shaking his head in disbelief. "Fruit basket may be an idea, you know what she's like. She loves being showered with gifts." Ed rolled his eyes. Ed wasn't sure what he thought of Felicity yet, at times he appreciated that he was partnered with her and then others, well, he felt like pouting.

After they rounded another corner a thought popped into Ed's head that caused him to stop in his tracks and jump in front of Trish, pointing a finger. "You cheated! Patricia Fells cheated on a bet. That means I win! That means I ain't wearing a coconut bikini to the ball." He put his hands on his hips, pretending to be disappointed before he cracked a smile.

Though he hardly needed to mention it, Trish took comfort in the fact her best mate knew her inside and out. Sure, it sucked sometimes when the things he said hit home, but it was a relief to remember she didn't have to explain herself to him. A simple exchange of a glance, and the two could read almost perfectly what the other was thinking. Such was the beauty of having maintained a close friendship since year one. "That's not fair. Not everything. For example, I don't tend to flip my lid when boys chase after my little sisters." Trish gave a cocky raise of her eyebrow as if tempting Ed to approach that topic, though she was quite certain he'd take the jest gracefully. She knew it was futile to try to sway Ed from finding those who were harassing her, particularly the most recent anonymous poster on her journal. They both wanted to know the face behind the insults, but Ed more so wanted to retaliate. Trish was aware of that much, as well. Without a doubt it made her feel that much safer, having the protection of her best mate. Not to mention, it was a relief to have latched on so closely to a pureblood family who was more a breath of fresh air than fulfillment of what seemed to be the status quo these days. Pureblood families were becoming more of a rarity in their times, which was probably the reason Trish was under so much heat. The more she thought about it, the more it made sense. Anyone who didn't believe in the mixing of pureblood with half-blood would loathe her friendship with Ed and Mia. That aside, her friendship with Ed probably threatened the other pureblood witches who had a slim dating pool where pureblood wizards were concerned. Trish was competition, though she couldn't see exactly why anyone would deem her as such. The best way to Ed's heart was through his best friend, right?

All the thoughts of Ed being nothing more than a means of continuing 'blood purity' for those who cared for such things made Trish uncomfortable, so she tried to force herself to linger in the present conversation instead. His light nudges were well received, and even caused her smile to grow into one more genuine as she finally poked at his exposed side to get him to stop. Then Trish resorted to linking her arm through Ed's once more, her eyes shifting back to his when he mentioned Felicity. Trish gave the girl as much respect as she could muster. After all, Yaxley was over the prefects. Still she couldn't help but feel they just didn't see eye-to-eye on many occasions. As far as Trish could tell, Felicity avoided finding fault with her Slytherin housemates. The ball almost always fell in another student's pitch. She initially thought this was just a coincidence, but the more Trish observed, the more she realized to the contrary. Still she knew better than to approach the topic with Ed. It would make the situation much more than was necessary. "She was probably glad to swap because she knew I had claims on you anyway. I wouldn't let her rest until she did, you know that." Trish laughed at Ed's animated display of disbelief prior to nuzzling her nose against his cheek. "Will do, Head Boy. A fruit basket and what's left of my sugar quills it is."

Trish was taken aback when Ed jumped out in front of her, and nearly jumped out of her skin herself at the reaction. When she realized the manner of his gesture, however, she smirked knowingly at her best friend and crossed her arms indignantly over her chest. "Easy there, curly! If I recall, you started responding to my comments through our classmates first," she retorted, poking his chest with her pointer finger before tugging his shirt to lead him back to her side. "I hear what you're saying, though. With the recent events, I'd say another costume is in order. Perhaps one that will let the entire school know what Ed Bones and Trish Fells are all about..."

Ed frowned slightly at the mention of Mia before perking up again. After all, it was just Trish. He didn't really get offended by anything Trish said even if his sister dating was a rather soft spot for him. Ed didn't know why he was the way he was, he was her older brother, he just assumed it was his job. Though, that didn't explain why he was so overprotective of Trish. He just thought it was his job and no matter how much they said they hated it, he was only looking out for them. They'd eventually understand it was all with good intentions. After all, one of his best mates was Bertie, who was someone who tended to leave birds hanging out to dry and he wasn't going to stand by and let blokes like that take advantage of them. He looked around the empty corridor quickly before pointing at himself. "Who? Me? Never!" he said with a surprised, sarcastic tone to match the disbelief that flooded his face.

"Oh really? And when did I agree on that? I think Emmeline Vance has had her eye on my for years. I may consider giving her claiming rights." He teased as he cocked an eyebrow. Ed instantly smiled as he nuzzled her nose against his cheek and returned the sign of affection by putting an arm around her and squeezing her tightly before dropping it again. He ran his fingers through his hair before he stretched his arms out as he yawned. He played with the zipper on his hooded jacket, pulling it up and down repeatedly while they walked. Ed rarely bothered with uniform when he patrolled and he was well sure no one would question it. And even if a professor happened to ask him about it, he simply said 'because I can', well, that's what he told everybody who inquired. He really told them his robes were in the wash, but whatever, Ed Bones did what he wanted. He also didn't care what the other prefects wore while they patrolled. Yaxley might have a problem with it but he rarely enforced any rules on the other prefects. Usually he just stood beside Felicity, nodding his head and repeating 'yeah, what she said.'

Ed's jaw dropped as Trish suggested that he cheated. "Hey now, love, I didn't not cheat. I never addressed you specifically but you went out of your way to talk to little ol' me. I won. How does that feel, Fells?" He smirked at his best mate quite devilishly before continuing. "And what are we all about, Chuckles?"
