Characters: Dorcas Meadowes & Narcissa Black
Setting: September 16 • Late evening, after Dinner • Outside the Great Hall, later the Kitchens.
Content: SFW
Summary: Dorcas & Narcissa get up to some mischief as they sneak down to the Kitchen.
Status: In Progress

After the performance at dinner Dorcas couldn't seem to shake off her good mood and when Narcissa asked her to sneak down to the kitchens with her, Dor couldn't refuse. The first reason being her obvious good mood, the second being that she hadn't really spent time with Narcissa since they'd arrived back for the semester and the third being the fact that Dorcas almost always did the right thing and well, sometimes she had to let her hair down.

A few hours after dinner she had briefly talked to Cissa about meeting up and sneaking to the kitchens over the journals. Within a matter of ten minutes she was dressed and heading down to the Great Hall. She had opted for her favorite pair of blue jeans, a plain white t-shirt that fitted her perfectly, her new blue cardigan that her muggle aunt had given her and topped her outfit off with a knitted maroon hat.

Once she reached the agreed meeting place she thought of were she'd be less noticeable. Once she scanned the entrance hall she wandered over to the corner and leaned against the wall hoping she wouldn't get spotted by Flich or a prefect.

When she left the Gryffindor common room, she'd been extra cautious not to be spotted by any of her friends. It wasn't that Dorcas was ashamed of being friends with Cissy, she just didn't want anyone to kill her good mood with another lecture about befriending Narcissa Black.

Though, Dorcas thought she would be used to the lectures by now but they still made her upset, no matter how hard she tried to ignore the comments. Narcissa and Dorcas had become friendly in her fourth year. They'd meet through Astronomy Club and despite anyone's 'advice' Dorcas had become rather close with the fifth year Slytherin. Dorcas believed that everyone had good in them, even if they did belong to the house of green. This belief had caused Dorcas to give Narcissa a chance and she had never regretted it.

The best thing about their friendship is they didn't run in the same circles, and when you're a Gryffindor everybody knows everybody's business, so it was refreshing to have Narcissa as a friend. Sometimes, Cissy was the only person Dorcas could be completely honest with, Dorcas had put a lot of trust into their friendship and valued it even as much as she valued Lily's and Kira's friendship.

She pushed off the wall with her foot and instinctively pulled out her wand from her rather large pockets when she heard footsteps. It was rather dark and wasn't completely sure if it was her friend approaching. "Lumos" she said quietly as she held out her wand in front of her hoping it wasn't a prefect because then she would have been busted, though she instantly felt relieved when she spotted the shadows of Narcissa's familiar curly locks.

"Cissa!" She called out rather excitedly, trying to keep her voice down. Whenever they went on one of their midnight adventures they always had the best time and Dorcas was rather hyper tonight. She stepped out from her corner and moved into the limited light that shined through the large window.

If the occupants of Slytherin house had any objections about her friendship with Dorcas Meadows, they kept them to themselves. Which was the wisest course, since with only minute exceptions, Narcissa was not a person who took well to the policing of her actions. Those who made the attempt were treated the arrow of a look she had stolen from Bella and adapted to suite her personality. She did not, and never would, have the raw ability of her eldest sister to inspire fear and trembling with a single look, but she could certainly put a chilly sensation down your spine. Narcissa was social, but she was selective about close friends and people she trusted. Dorcas fell into that category and Narcissa saw no reason to both listening any objections.

When she left the dungeon common room it was still speckled with ambitious students engaged in a heavy bit of studying. Narcissa did not think that academics would ever hold anything so important to her that she'd devote time and energy to it. Besides, she'd found early on that scholarship and diversion went well together. There was nothing quite as enjoyable as entertainments that beckoned when there was something pressing that needed to be done in the way of scholarship. She was glad that she'd managed to coax Dorcas out for a bit of truancy with her. She didn't want to be cooped up in the dormitory and she hadn't seen her friend since the school year started. Narcissa made her way swiftly through the dim lit passageway that led up from the Slytherin common room to the high ceilinged corridor just outside the Great Hall.

She saw the pin prick of light suddenly go up as she approached the grand doors and saw her friend illuminated in the soft white light at the same time she heard her name called. The blossom of a small laugh erased the typical impassive ice queen expression Narcissa wore.

"Dorcas!" Instantly exhuberant and bubbly, her arms went around the other blonde's neck in a hug once she reached the Gryffindor girl's side. "I'm fashionable late as always. I got side tracked hexing first year cats bald." She flashed a cheeky, seraphic smile as she pulled back from the hug again. "And I had to find something to put your souvenier in." She dropped her arms so that she could bring into view the tiny gray velvet bag that head the black pearl hair clip she'd brought back from her summer trip to Panama.

A small giggle escaped Dorcas' lips as her friend pulled her into a hug. She squeezed her friend softly as she slightly gasped. She rolled her eyes playfully as they pulled away from each other. "You didn't?!" Dorcas caught Narcissa's cheeky grin and shook her head. Whenever Narcissa told Dorcas that she did something she never knew what to believe. On one hand, Dorcas thought of her as harmless, while on the other hand the rest of the student body was quite intimidated by her friend. She dismissed the idea of the bald cats from her mind, though she didn't do it with ease. The suggestion of bald cats roaming around the Slytherin common room was a little too amusing and produced a soft laugh.

As Narcissa revealed the small velvet bag Dorcas felt her small hand reach her mouth. "Cissa! That's unfair. I didn't get you anything.." She objected. Dorcas had considered getting Narcissa a gift over the holidays but she was a little unsure of what to give her friend. Dorcas' family didn't go anywhere as exotic as Panama, they just visited her mother's Muggle family in the country. Dorcas cheeks eventually creased as she flashed a smirk towards the Slytherin. Dorcas pulled her friend in for a hug before taking the small package. "You shouldn't have, you know?"

She took her time opening the tiny bag and gasped when she gently took out the hair clip. She moved her hand towards the light so she could get a better look at the small details. It was beautiful, though, that didn't surprise Dorcas. Narcissa had always been interested in accessories like this particular hair clip and she had a keen eye for them. "Its beautiful." she sighed, feeling a little guilty. She made a mental note to pick something up for her friend on the Hogsmeade trip. She giggled mentally at the thought of stopping at Denizens, the Hogsmeade pet store, to pick out a pet for Narcissa. She thought of maybe purchasing a kitten for the other blond. She hoped that maybe it'll get Narcissa to show a little more compassion, and besides the irony was too good to pass up. "Thanks Cissa. You didn't have too." She said softly as a genuine smile escaped her lips.

Dorcas' eyes darted across the room as she heard a noise. She rolled her eyes, as she thought of Peeves. She looked back to Narcissa. "Shall we get going? I mean I don't really feel like being chased around the castle by Peeves... or some Prefect." The latter was a little more concerning to her. She could have sworn it was Lily's and Remus' night for patrolling and she didn't want to get scolded by her friend or the guy she she kind of, maybe fancied.

"I'm a Slytherin," Her expression was one of blatant pleasure at Dorcas' reaction. "I don't have to be fair."

Her remark about cat's had been a joke, but only because she hadn't been of a mind to yet and not because it was something totally unlikely. After all, cats shed and they spat up and they made Andy absolutely miserable with sneezing. In her opinion if even Andromeda was naturally programmed to be ill disposed towards the creatures they couldn't possibly as lovely as everyone seemed to think. Besides...it would be rather funny. Narcissa was certainly not someone you could call a nice girl. She was hardly easily approachable and she had a very bad temper and an even worse streak of vindication. But those were reserved for strangers and for provocation. When it came to individuals she was friendly with, all those things got lost beneath the avalanche of joviality and candid affection.

Cissa rose up onto the balls of her feet briefly and then down again, a motion that clearly conveyed a sense of open it! open it! as she handed the velvet bag to the other girl. She laughed again as Dorcas hugged her a second time before accepting the gift. Souvenir shopping was one of Narcissa's favorite parts of vacationing. Most of the gifts she'd returned with had been given to their respective recipients on the first day, the bulk of their respective recipients being in Slytherin.

"Of course I didn't. But I am a goddess of altruism and generosity and good taste and I'm happy you like it." The scuffle of noise disturbed her self-congratulations, turning her head to glance back down the way she gave. She made a gesture for Dorcas to follow her and the slipped away from the towering doors to the Great Hall towards the staircase that led down into the basement of the castle. The way to the kitchens intersected with the Hufflepuff Corridor, so she didn't attempt to use her wand to light her way. At any rate she'd been down this direction enough times that she could navigate the chilly halls, even in the low lighting.

She turned her attention for a moment to straining her hearing for sound. "I don't think they're following after. It was probably Peeves," she whispered over to Dorcas. "Which is even worse than prefects, honestly. Last time he followed me for twenty minutes and wouldn't shut up for a second. The jokes weren't bad, but the singing was horrendous."

Dorcas rolled her eyes at Narcissa's remark about being a Slytherin. No matter how many times Dorcas had heard it, she still managed to be caught off guard. To Dorcas, Narcissa was a kind and generous person, even if the sorting hat saw her differently and well, Narcissa's house always seemed to to slip her mind especially when she compared Narcissa to the likes of Rabastan Lestrange.

She laughed, shaking her head and rolling her eyes again. "Of course you are. No one is as generous as the Narcissa Black." She said playfully with a hint of sarcasm as they moved past the Great Hall, heading towards the very familiar staircase. Whether it was night or day, Dorcas made frequent trips to the Kitchens. She always had her usual craving for something sweet but she also found the house elves terribly amusing and she probably spent a little too much time there.

She watched as Narcissa fell silent before mentioning the particular ghost that every student knew well. Peeves. He could be the pain of Dorcas' existence or quite an amusing fellow. Dorcas was on rather good terms with the other ghosts, well those who paid her attention, even Bloody Baron. Peeves was a different story, like every other student in the castle, Dorcas had spent enough time with Peeves to last her a life time. She laughed almost silently, "Oh come on Cissa. I don't think he is that bad and besides he's made quite a duet partner on a number of occasions." As much as Dorcas said she disliked the ghost, their relationship was one of a love-hate. Love, if he was being friendly towards her, while on the other side of the fence, she has been known to the throw him a few hateful glances when he screams 'student out of bed' down the halls when she is feeling a little rebellious. When Dorcas is in a particularly good mood she's known for showing a kindness towards Peeves, even singing a tune with him, regardless of her voice being just as frightening as his.

Halfway down the staircase, Dorcas picked up her pace, eager to reach the kitchen. She turned her head to face Narcissa, keeping up her pace. "How's everything over on your side of the castle? I hope my Narcissa hasn't broken too many hearts since she's been back." She teased playfully.
