WHO: Mia, Ed, and Trish
WHEN: October 28th, Late
WHERE: Hufflepuff Dorms > Mia's Room
WHAT: Operation 'Hug it Out' has begun.
RATING: Low

Mia had spent most of the day in a haze of disappointment and hurt. Classes had been difficult because all she wanted to do was curl up in her dorm. It was a bloody mess, and she had no idea how to fix it. She was also angry at herself for even wanting to fix it because she hadn't done anything wrong. Being upset over how the stupid game Bertie had brought up was one thing. Being hurt that Tiberius had decided to leave and blow off their date, like it was nothing, was another. Being angry at Ed for his overprotectiveness was probably the worst. She hated getting angry with her brother, and even Mia had to admit it was the way he'd always been. She was used to it by now, though it never got this out of hand. That part was due to Tiberius' reactions to it all, though, which made her wonder who she was really the most mad at. It was all so confusing and overwhelming, which was a headache when she didn't add in the letter he'd left her. Thinking about it just made her stomach twist, however, so tried not to and focused on appearing normal in class instead.

When she'd seen the whole interaction in the morning, and first read the letter, she'd been livid. As the day wore on, however, Mia calmed down considerably. By the time Trish commented on her entry, she was pretty much past the seething anger phase, though she was still too disheartened to want to go to the ball. After talking to Molly, Trish, and Sirius, however, she decided she couldn't sulk in her room over one date. So when Ed finally answered, she was feeling a little better, though no less upset and hurt. Luckily, Trish always knew what to say, and her offer for a hug was one Mia eagerly accepted. Asking Ed to join was a long shot, since she was still a little petulant, but her brother's agreement made her happy. So now all she had to do was wait and hope that the three of them talking it out wouldn't end in more tears.

Everything was a complete mess. Trish had a hard time trying to get Ed to agree to the ball arrangements. If that wasn't enough of a task in and of itself, Tiberius had to go and muck things up with Ed and Amelia through the journals. That was the curse of these wretched things. Sometimes people were thick enough to forget how to use wards properly. This time, however, Trish was somewhat grateful for the boy's ignorance. What he said about Mia should have been brought to the light, especially before the girl became more invested in him. The manner at which it came about was disheartening though. Tiberius had to go and make an utter ass of himself in front of the entire school, and through extension, eyes turned then on Mia. Everyone wanted to see her reaction. Such was the course with drama at Hogwarts. If it wasn't blown out of proportion from the start, someone somewhere would find a way to add gravity along the way. Trish felt utterly guilty for not trusting Ed's instincts, but even more so that Mia was truly hurt by the entire experience. She wanted to hate Tiberius, which only caused greater conflict in herself considering he was formerly deemed one of her good friends. It was true what they said about Hufflepuffs: one's problem became everybody's problem. Ro was already discussing potential changes she'd make to the Quidditch roster if things continued. What a shoddy way to start the year!

Nevertheless Trish decided to closet her emotions. Though she wanted to throw a few things and perhaps write an anonymous howler to the boy who started the trouble to begin with, she withheld her wrath. Her focus this evening was Mia, and stage one of the healing process involved hugs, chocolate, trash talking boys, and reconciling her to her big brother, in whatever order that managed to fall! Closing up her journal, Trish rummaged through her nightstand for small satchel of chocolate mints she had left from the last Hogsmeade trip. There was no telling how fresh they'd be, but it was sure better than nothing. With that, she made her way out of the dorm and headed straight for Ed's.

To her surprise, Ed was a willing captive. Tugging him out of bed was hardly a problem, though trying to get him to smile was another task in and of itself. She poked and prodded at his sides until he smiled out of impulse, and then grabbed his hand to lead him off to Mia. By the time the two reached her dorm, Trish turned around and allowed their hands to break apart. "You coming?" she whispered curiously, to which he just stared absently. She knew well enough he was probably still beating himself up over the entire thing. With an exaggerated huff, Trish reached a hand up to Ed's hair to give it a quick tussle before creaking the door open to walk in.

Of course she knocked, but that was simultaneous with the turning of the doorknob. There were only two girls, including Mia, in the dorm at that point in time despite the late hour, yet Trish felt a bit anxious dragging the Head Boy in without warning. Glancing at the other girl, sixth year Cordelia Snell, she whispered as she passed the bed. "You'll do best to cover yourself, love. The Head Boy will be in any second." Patting the girl's foot, she moved toward Amelia's four-post. Though her back was to Trish, she could tell the poor thing was still a mess. Drawing back the curtains a little further so Ed would be able to spot them from the door, Trish gently took a seat on top of the covers Mia was hiding under. She massaged Mia's back gently with one hand prior to reaching up to her hair to pull it back from her face, hoping that would be enough to get Mia to turn to face her so they could talk, and yes, hug it out! "Hanging in there, kiddo?" she whispered, glancing back to the doorway briefly to find her best mate peeking his head in. She forced a smile before turning back to the girl who was curled up in a ball under her blankets. Running a hand over her back again, she smiled sympathetically at her surrogate sister.

Ed hadn't actually realised why but for the past few weeks he had been feeling as if there was a dark cloud looming over his head. It was starting to become more and more constant, as well as the fact that Ed apologizing was starting to become a weekly ritual. Sure, he had always been protective of his two girls but he wasn't used to calling his mate 'a prick' and suggesting that he ought to sod off. The truth was that if Ed wasn't so god damned stubborn, he would have admitted that how he was treating Tiberius was bang out of order, well, until today. The journal entry was just another thing that added to the list of things that were sending Ed over the edge. It wasn't the fact that Mia had been mentioned, everything about the idea irked him. But honestly, the mention of Mia did set him off. He was originally planning to shut down the thing anyway, it was just perfect timing when Mia was mentioned. Shit had already hit the roof. He'd gave them all a warning to stop and of course they didn't take him seriously. Well, Bertie had, whenever the sod decided to wake up. Tiberius on the other hand, had decided that him being mates with the Head Boy meant that he had some sort of special treatment. He not only kept on going with the game but he had answered between himself, Trish and Amelia, and that well, pissed him right off. He remembers reading it a few times over, checking if he had read it correctly. He remembered a muscle in his jaw twitching before the desire of throwing something spread throughout his body. He held onto that feeling, hoping that he'd be able to explain to Amelia. He thought what he did was justified and that was all that mattered, right?

Well no. Tiberius flew off the handle at him. Ed couldn't even comprehend his logic, he hadn't said much, he had just told him to stop. He was only doing it in a Head Boy kind of matter. Though, when Tiberius told him that he was done being his mate, he retaliated by calling him a prick and, that was all Ed. And he knew he'd stand by that comment for a long time coming, well, as long as his attention span would last out. Things only escalated when the sod called his date off with Mia. That wasn't what Ed was aiming for. As much as he'd hope it wouldn't go ahead, he never wanted to hurt Mia. He was hoping that Mia would get over Tiberius, and realise that he was a prat. He felt like a complete arse, knowing that he'd stuffed everything up. He was the reason his sister was probably up in her dorm crying her eyes out. His jaw clenched thinking about it as he rolled on his stomach, grabbing his pillow and wrapping it around his head, in hopes of drowning his thoughts out.

He heard footsteps enter the pretty deserted dorm. 'Sod off' almost slipped out of his mouth before he stopped himself. Somehow he knew it was Trish before looking up to see his best mate approaching his bed. Not much words were said but Ed pulled himself willingly out of bed knowing that Trish would sort this mess out. She was the only one would could sort him out. Ed constantly found himself feeling quite guilty, he was always leaning on her and he knew it must take a toll on her. Trish managed to get him to smile as they made their way to Mia's dorm, though, as they neared the smile quickly faded into a frown. He knew too well what was hidden behind that door - his little sister, crying because of him. He gave her a look that was probably proved to be enough of a answer to her question. To be better safe then sorry he vocalized his thoughts in a whisper. "How about I stay back just in case she feels like throwing things."

Ed followed Trish as far as the door, leaning on the door frame as he watched her enter, wondering if this was such a good idea after all.

Amelia hated herself for sulking like this, but she thought she was allowed a little bit of time to be upset. She felt embarrassed and betrayed, and that made her feel like a fool. She normally wasn't so bloody ignorant when it came to boys, and never before had Ed's protectiveness been this much of an issue. A part of Mia also felt guilty for causing all this trouble, even if it wasn't really her fault at all. She considered herself the cause to Tiberius and Ed's fighting, and all the stress Trish was facing trying to sort it all out. It was such a mess, but she was too depressed at the moment to be extremely guilty. Her anger had faded for the most part, though thinking of certain things would bring it back in small bursts every now and then.

When she heard the door open, she knew at once who it was. Mia didn't turn over at first, instead waited as her adopted sister approached the bed and sat down. The comforting feel of a hand on her back had her smiling, and after a few seconds she did turn when Trish brushed some hair from her face. Managing what she hoped was a convincing smile, she nodded, sitting herself up a little more. "I suppose," she answered softly, her eyes flicking to Ed standing in the doorway looking uncertain. She hated that they were fighting even this little bit, and sighed heavily before glancing back to Trish.

"Is he going to stand out there all night? Or maybe we should move to the common room so Cordelia can sleep." Mia hoped the reason he was lingering was just because there were other people in the room; not because he didn't want to talk to her.
