Characters: Remus Lupin and obviously open to any Gryffindors
Setting: Wednesday, October 20 early morning into the afternoon, Gryffindor tower
Content: SFW
Summary: Remus is finally allowed to leave the hospital wing and get back to the tower, where his house-mates can feel free to pester/coddle him
Status: Incomplete

Remus was always out of commission for a few days after the full moons, but he'd never felt like this. His bones and joints were sore, an almost constant headache was pulsing near the back of his eyes and he trying his best to hide the limp he had apparently developed during all the craziness. Madame Pomfrey said it would go away in time, but it still worried Remus because he knew it might attract attention. McGonagall had released him early this morning to avoid as many curious looks as possible and instructed him to stay there for the duration of the day. He kept asking her about James but she merely silenced him with a look and he dropped it.

It was just after 7 am when Remus returned to the common room and, much to Remus's relief, it was on the empty side. He kept his eyes on the staircase to his dormitory, hoping anyone in the room would just pretend he simply wasn't there and leave him alone. The events of the night of the full moon had been replaying in his mind  on a constant loop, not that he could remember anything but he had a good enough imagination that he could piece it all together from the whispers he heard from the staff while pretending to be sleeping. Sirius said they didn't think Remus had bitten anyone and he had come to with an empty stomach, which was always a good sign but it didn't make him feel better about what had happened.

It went too far, he thought as he grabbed some clothes from his truck. There were still thin lines on his forearms and across his shoulder from where Pomfrey had healed his wounds but he covered them quickly with the fresh shirt and pajama pants and sat down on his four poster. Their monthly night of mischief had turned into his worst nightmare and was giving him a constant stomach ache. The silence of the dormitory was nice and even soothing, but as he looked over at James's empty bed it felt like an ice cube slipping down in his stomach, filling him with dread and guilt.

Sinking down into his bed, he pulled the covers up to his chin and settled down. For a second he was thankful for the silence of the tower, but now that he had it all to himself, Remus felt more isolated then ever. Frowning so the lines creased on his forehead he stared at the ceiling, reliving everything all over again.

Teddy was an absolute wreck of worry, which was quite out of character for him. Normally he was all smiles and jokes, but hearing that something bad had happened to his friend definitely put a damper on his mood. He was glad Lily had told him about the accident, since he was starting to think the worst when none of the Marauders had been in the dorms or anywhere to be found really. Of course he was younger, but Teddy was a bit upset that no one had filled him in on one of his mates being in the hospital wing. He wasn't the type to get mad, however, not when it was something serious. And according to Lily, nobody was really allowed to talk about it anyway.

Classes were a blur to the young Gryffindor. He was worried about his friends, and trying to plan the best strategy for getting past the house elves. Teddy fully intended on fighting his way in that afternoon once he put his books back in his room. His steps were hurried as he made his way back to Gryffindor Tower, and his mind was a whirl of possible excuses he could use to get in. Upon entering the dorms, he noticed the eerie silence first, which only served to remind him of what happened. Of course many of his housemates were probably in class still, but it seemed ominously deserted to him. Hurrying up the stairs, Teddy dropped off his books as promised, then decided to stop by and see if any of the boys were back by any chance. Remus had been talking about feeling under the weather, so he hoped maybe the older boy was in fact here. Then at least he could see one of them for himself and set his mind at ease a bit.

Peering into the room, Teddy thought he saw a lump in Remus' bed, which gave him a little hope. Not wanting to barge in just in case the other boy was resting, he cleared his throat and tried to smile before he spoke. "Remus? That you mate?" he said, quieter than usual, so as not to startle his friend.

It was relatively early and the rest of the girls were still sleeping. Dorcas peered over to Lily's bed as she pulled herself out from under the covers, wondering whether Lily had made her way up to the dormitory after she had drifted off to sleep. Dorcas frowned as she discovered it was empty. The fact that she really hadn't spoken to her friend for the past few days only made her concern grow and the lack of news regarding James' health only made it worse for everybody. There had been an eerie silence looming over the Gryffindor Tower as of late. The conversations in the common room during the evening were forced and even when someone did mention James' recovery the room would grow mute with people who just didn't know what to say, Dorcas being one of them. Whenever Lily had contacted the girls over the journals it only made her worry more, she'd grow distressed about saying the wrong thing and only making Lily more stressed.

Dorcas tiptoed around the dorm, hoping not to wake the others as she grabbed her journal and propped herself up on the window sill. The sun had barely surfaced as she opened her journal on her lap, hoping to receive word from Remus that he had been released from the hospital wing. Dorcas felt a smile tug at her lips as a wave of relief came over her. Her body slouched as she leaned against the wall and she mentally slapped herself for allowing herself to feel that way. James wasn't out of the clear and the last thing she should be feeling was relief. Dorcas became aggravated over her conflicting and changing emotions, for one she was happy that she would be able to see Remus but then she had this ever looming concern in the back of her head for James. She glanced out the window, allowing herself to calm down, reminding herself that Remus was fine and James would be too. The Healers transferred him and Dorcas was taking that as a good sign. It took a moment for Dorcas to bring herself out of her thoughts and she sighed heavily, realising she was being ridiculous and concentrated her concern on Remus. Dorcas got up abruptly, chucking her journal on her unmade bed before she made her way across the room as silently as she could.

As she reached the bottom of the stairs Dorcas peered around the common room to find it empty before she made her way up the staircase that led to the boys' dormitories. Dorcas rushed up the stairs, feeling the cold stone against her feet before she realised Teddy was standing in the doorway of the sixth years' dormitory. She hesitated as she saw Teddy was clothed, realising she was still in her pajamas. Her hair was tied back in a messy bun and she tucked a loose strain of hair behind her ear before she reached the fifth year. "Teddy." Dorcas whispered, allowing her lips to tug up ever so slightly. Dorcas squeezed Teddy's hand lightly before she pulled it away to push the door open a little more so Remus could come to view. Dorcas bit her lip as she lingered in the door frame, concern flooding her face, wondering if Teddy and herself should walk in. Dorcas moved into the room after hovering in the door frame for a few moments and propped herself up on Remus' bed, putting her hand on Remus' shoulder. "Remus?" She breathed, hoping both her's and Teddy's presence was welcomed.

Remus was completely lost in his own head; not a bad thing but something that happened whenever he was struggling to sleep. By all right he should be exhausted, but his mind was running at full speed. He had rolled over onto his side by the time Teddy and Dorcas arrived, and when he felt a hand on his shoulder he considered for just a moment ignoring it and hoping they left.

But he recognized the voices; Teddy and Dorcas. The thought of their presence lessened the cold pit that had formed in his stomach and Remus rolled over and sat up, looking at both of them. Trying to smile, he gave Dorcas's hand a small squeeze and looked at Teddy.

"Morning," he muttered, exhaling heavily. It wasn't entire visible, but there was a pretty big bruise on the right side of his head just along the hairline near his temple. For a brief second, he wanted to lean against Dorcas and somehow take comfort in her presence, but he refrained. "Guess words out, huh?"

Seeing Dorcas behind him nearly made him jump guiltily, as if he'd been caught doing something wrong, but the squeeze of her hand was reassuring. Teddy wasn't sure himself if he should enter and disturb his friend or just leave him alone. Luckily, Dorcas didn't have the problems that he seemed to be having. His eyes followed the blonde as she made her way into Remus' room, and after her whispered word, he figured it was safe to enter too. The older boy didn't throw them out, though Teddy did notice his hand reach out and squeeze Dorcas'. He made a mental note not to linger too long so as to give these two some privacy, but he definitely wanted to make sure Remus was alright first.

Entering, he smiled slightly, though it was more subdued than his normal grin. Teddy was definitely worried about his friends, and the fact that James was still in the hospital wing bothered him. "Morning mate," he spoke softly, then nodded as Remus questioned about them knowing. Well, Teddy knew at least because Lily had told him. He wasn't sure if the whole school knew. "How are you feeling?"

Remus managed a smile as Teddy came closer as well. He had assumed Lily had told many of her friends about what had happened, but then again no one really knew what happened...there was no way. Lily probably didn't know exactly what had happened, especially if James was still out of it.

He gave a short laugh when Teddy asked how he was. "Like I got ran over by a hippogriff," smirking at the concern on the young Gryffindor's face. "Don't look so concerned, Ted. We're all on the mend, nothing we haven't handled before." There was a lack of confidence in his tone; none of them had been hurt this badly before, hell none of them had been sent to St. Mungo's because of one of their pranks before. "I imagine the whole castle is buzzing with speculation."

Dorcas glanced over towards Teddy quickly as he entered the room. Suddenly, she was feeling rather grateful for his presence, it gave her a moment to collect her thoughts. She turned her gaze back to Remus as he greeted them, trying her best to form a small smile. Though, whatever smile she had managed to form quickly faded as she assessed Remus' condition. Dorcas' felt her eyebrows furrowed as concern filled her eyes. She raised the hand that rested in her lap to touch the bottom of Remus' face, gentling bringing his right side into view. Dorcas noticed the bruise on his temple, it was harder to notice but it was definitely there. She almost winced as if she was in some sort of physical pain. She bit her lip and dropped her hand as she gave him another concerning look before she glanced Teddy's way again.

Dorcas sighed when Remus laughed and returned her gaze towards him. She grew slightly irritated when Remus told Teddy to not look so concerned. Dorcas could only imagine how worried Teddy was because she felt the same way. It was like telling a fish not to swim - it was impossible. She shot him another concerning look as he said they could handle it. The whole time Dorcas had known them, it had never gotten this serious and it frightened her. She decided to not voice anything concerning what he had said in hopes the looks she gave him communicated everything she was thinking. "Most people are just guessing at it. I mean, I think it's just us who know the extent of the whole thing." She said quietly, dropping her eyes her hands that still rested in her lap.

Remus was mildly shocked when Dorcas touched his chin the way she did. He turned his head willingly, feeling her looking at the bruise and didn't quite meet her eyes as his heart hammered in his chest. There were always awkward questions when he showed up with new cuts and bruises, but because of the company he kept, people let it go most times. As her hand fell away, his heart dropped a bit.

He was making light of an extremely serious situation; that was how Remus reacted when he knew people were worried. Teddy didn't need protecting, but Remus wanted to try and ease his worrying. It was about the only useful thing he could do at the moment. However, Dorcas's reactions told him immediately she wasn't buying his line for a second.

"The rumor mill of Hogwarts never fails," Remus replied, rolling his eyes. The extent of the whole thing...if only they really knew. Leaning back Remus looked at his two friends. There was a side of them that was happy for their concern; it was what friends did after all. "Look, I know it's bad, really. But James is working on bouncing back. They wouldn't have brought him back from St. Mungo's otherwise." He gave them both a very serious look. "Have I ever misled either of you before?"

"Nobody has ever been to Mungo's before, though." Teddy wasn't angry. He understood Remus' reaction. He actually felt a little silly for acting so worried, but he couldn't help it. All of his friends seemed to have been involved in something seriously dangerous, and one of them was currently in the hospital wing still unconscious. Still, Teddy tried to grin at the comment about being run over by a hippogriff, which wouldn't have made him smile at all if Dorcas' presence wasn't a bit more soothing. He didn't want to seem like a baby in front of a girl, though he certainly didn't have too much pride to act concerned.

Shaking his head as talk of the rumors bubbled up, he ran a hand through his unruly curly locks. "People always like to talk. They don't know anything, though. It's absolutely mad some of the stories that are circulating." Teddy had gotten in his fair share of heated arguments today when people made stupid comments or speculations. Glancing at Dorcas for a moment he then refocused on Remus as he grew serious for a moment.

"No you haven't...I would just feel better if I knew for sure James was awake. I haven't gotten a chance to try and sneak in yet." He felt guilty for that, and it obviously showed. But if Remus said it would be okay, he would trust that it would be.

Remus lowered his head a bit, his eyes closed. He was starting to understand why Pomfrey had wanted him to stay in the hospital wing for so long. Thinking about everything was starting to make his headache a bit worse. For a moment he resigned himself to the fact that he wasn't going to be able to convince them that they were worrying needlessly.

"If you try to see get in, make sure you're got a good reason. Pomfrey's got an army of house elves at her disposal to keep people out so consider yourself warned," Remus had to admit he understood the need for security due to the curiosity of the Hogwarts student body but he also thought it may have been wiser to keep James away. "He'll be awake soon." Remus consider making up some item he had left behind in the hospital wing but he didn't want Jordan to feel pushed out the door.

Then again, Remus didn't know if he could handle himself with just Dorcas now either.

Dorcas eyes immediately dropped when James was mentioned. The anxious pit in her stomach only deepened when she managed to look up at Remus. She couldn't even imagine what he must be feeling. Dorcas had never been in this situation, she wasn't even sure she could comprehend what she would feel if it was Lily or Caradoc in James' position. She glanced reassuringly Teddy's way, hoping he wasn't feeling terrible for mentioning it. Dorcas suddenly found herself wishing she had a time turner to go back and stop Teddy from mentioning it. Dorcas set her eyes straight forward trying to think of something she could say to make him feel better.

Dorcas took a moment before she looked back at Remus to make sure she had her emotions under control. She turned back to him after a moment and tried to give him a reassuring look. "Of course he will. It's James, he'll be up and planning a prank in no time." She said quietly, truly believing her words. Like she had said to Lily, the Healers wouldn't have transferred him back to the castle if he wasn't on the way to, or if not already recovering. She started to feel a little sick as she continued to look at Remus. Her concern was only escalating as the attention redirected onto James, it also didn't help that her heart dropped every time she looked at Remus. She didn't like seeing Remus like this, it was hard enough considering his current condition but Dorcas knew Remus was way more concerned about James than he was suggesting.

She fiddled with her hands as she considered maybe Remus wanted to be alone. "Did you want us to leave?" She asked in almost a whisper.

Remus's face fell noticeably when Dorcas asked if he wanted them to leave. He had been looking forward to getting back to his regular life and the last thing he needed was to be alone and isolated.

"Wha...no..." he sat up straight, suddenly extremely concerned that he had offended his friends. "I, look I'm sorry I did mean to offend either of you. I'm just tired, but I..." Remus looked down and closed his eyes for a second. "Please don't leave."

It was directed to both of them, but Remus looked directly at Dorcas when he said it. He hadn't seen Sirius, Peter or Lily in days and everything seemed to be out of control. Running his hands through his hair he sighed. They certainly had made a bloody mess of everything.

Dorcas watched Remus' face fall and she immediately felt guilty. She instantly regretted saying it especially when she didn't want to leave. A wave of relief washed over her as he asked them not to. Even if he had suggested otherwise she probably would have protested, no matter how hurt she would have been. "Good. I probably wouldn't have left anyway." She said quietly, her features softening as she looked at him. "And don't you dare apologize." She continued in a quiet, almost delicate voice. Her features were still noticeably soft, something she started to realise was a pattern every time she glanced Remus' way.

Dorcas' eyes lingered on Teddy for a few moments as she wondered what he was thinking. She made a mental note to check up on him later, just to see how he was taking the whole thing. She had a feeling that like Remus, he was more concerned than he was letting on. She turned her attention back to Remus, noticing how his body had gone a little rigid. Dorcas' eyes lingered on Remus for a moment before a few strands fell into her face, breaking her gaze. Dorcas pulled the elastic out of her hair releasing the very few strands of hair that hadn't fallen loose. Dorcas gazed straight forward, sitting in silence just in case Teddy wanted to say anything. She felt a little guilty that she had been doing most of the talking, after all, Teddy was Remus' friend too, he would have been just as worried as she was. Dorcas pulled her legs up onto the bed, pulling them up to her chin as she glanced Remus' way again.

She bit her lip as she tried to read him, trying to understand what he might be thinking. She dropped her legs, tracing the pattern on her pajama pants as a thousands thoughts starting rushing through her mind. Before she knew it she had moved closer to Remus and was hugging him. She didn't over think why she was suddenly hugging him, especially since she had fell silent, it was rather random. Dorcas just thought it was necessary, seeing as she was having trouble saying what she wanted to say. The hug said it all, she hoped it said that she was there for him and that everything would be okay.

Remus felt quite glad when she said she wouldn't be leaving any time soon. He had enough isolation during the last few days and it was the last thing he wanted. The change on Dorcas's face was so noticeable it shocked Remus a bit. He would stop apologizing; he needed to remember that he didn't do anything wrong, not in their eyes anyway.

He felt stiff, tense with nerves from everything as he stared at his bedspread. It would be so much easier if he could just get answers from James or Sirius. There was a nagging feeling that he had hurt James, but no one had said anything about werewolf bites so he guessed he might be safe. Thousands of questions raced through his mind, taking Remus mentally out of the whole situation and sending the room spinning. It was his fault; all his fault. He started breathing shallow, worry freezing up his system until he felt something very strange.

Dorcas was so close, her arms wrapped around him, hugging him tightly and for a moment he couldn't get his body to react and return the hug. The pair didn't exactly have a physical friendship in the hugging sense, but it didn't feel odd. He could feel something more behind the hug, something bigger than he couldn't put into words and he wrapped his arms around her and returned the hug. Thankful didn't even big to describe how he felt right now.

When he remembered Teddy was still in the room, he pulled himself back a bit. Looking at Dorcas for a moment, his blinked some gathering moisture back in his eyes, wiping them quickly with his hand.

"Thank you," he glanced from Dorcas to Teddy. There wasn't anything else to say.
