Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
WHO: Tiberius and Amos
WHEN: Monday after class
WHERE: Classroom 5
WHAT: Amon and Tiberius have a well overdue talk
RATING: Pretty tame, save possible language

Tiberius was having a hard time communicating these days. His run in with Mossy the other night left him shaken, Ed was most likely still furious with him about his comments about Trish, and to cap off the bad weekend and start a bad week, his comments about the Muggle Studies section of the library rounded off the list of best friends to piss off with Ro and Mossy.

While he waited for Amos in room five, he took a deep exhausted breath and looked back at the weekend and how things had gone so wrong for him. Much of his trouble with communication had to do with his immense guilt at keeping things from his friends-things which had an immense weight to them. He had been meaning to have this conversation with Mossy for a while, but that did not make it any less nerve racking and hard. The longer his friend waited to show up, the increasingly hot Tiberius' brow became. Situations like these are partly the reason he loved flying. The air always held a new means of escape, even if you had to do it yourself. Just as he was about to jump ship and prolong the inevitable once again, the door rattled and Amos walked through the threshold.

Tiberius held his breath.

Amos walked into the door with a stern look on his face. Not really due to the conversation about Muggles and Muggle culture, as he knew that Tiberius wasn't really prejudiced... no, just a little tactless sometimes.

In reality, it was more Tiberius' general demeanour over the past couple of weeks that bothered him. He'd seemed really unlike himself, and Amos was worried.

More than a little grumpily, he sat down in the nearest chair with a thud. "So" he said, crossing his arms. "Talk."

While Tiberius was usually able to hold his own off the top of his head in social situation, this was not one and he was awkward as ever. His nerves, mixed with his social consciousness about how out of character he was being just made the situation even worse. But he knew the first cut is the deepest, so he swallowed his pride and began to speak.

"Well, I suppose I should start from the beginning...Well....Merlin this is awkward..."

He trailed off with a stifled laugh, but at the stern and unamused look Amos was giving him, he knew he had to continue. He cleared his throat and gazed at the floor.

"My dad was....well, overbearing is an understatement....so I had to find ways to amuse myself. And then...long story short, I found a way to escape it, to...I dunno, get away momentarily. It took me a while though. I tried once when I was younger with disastrous results. I'm surprised I wasn't killed. But I finally did it right after my fifth year. I think that would be why my O.W.L.s were not the best...so...that's part of why I've been so weird."

He didn't know quite where to go on from this point. He had talked about the background of his issues, but not the issues themselves. He decided to take it one step at a time.

"The other night when I ran into you after duty, I really was looking for injured creatures, but I wasn't on my broom, and lying to you was awful. I just wasn't ready for you to know, I didn't know a way to tell you. And ever since my behavior has... I guess been in compensation for that. Does any of that make sense?"

Amos simply raised an eyebrow. "What do you mean, you found a way to escape it?"

He knew Tiberius' father was pretty strict and so on, though he wasn't quite sure how that linked to the state Amos had found him in the other night.

Tiberius was dumbstruck. How could he have said everything and nothing all at once! After false starting his speech a couple times, he finally got out,
"Are you familiar with the...er.....Animagus Transfiguration Charm?"

"Of course I bloody know it, it's on the third year curr - "

Amos stopped suddenly as the reality of what Tiberius was saying hit him. And that was when he actually did get annoyed. Though he spoke in low tones to avoid being overheard from outside, his voice was clearly quivering with the beginnings of rage.

"For the love of Merlin, Tiberius, tell me you haven't done what I think you've done."

This was not the reaction he had hoped for, nor had he expected.

He knew most of the things he expected were unrealistic ("Merlin, that's wicked", or "How'd you handle that?"), but he at least hoped his friend would be supportive. From the sounds of things, Tiberius was scared his friend was not only unsupportive, but also vehemently disapproving. He immediately regretted the whole thing. He should never have done it, least of all told anyone about it, and now he was on the verge of losing his best friend.

"Well, I don't want to lie anymore, so I'm not really sure what to tell you."

His hands shook, and the heat that was in his brow turned icy cold, yet sweat still seemed to burst forth from it. Terrible emotion and regret turned his insides and all he felt like doing was running, well, flying, away and throwing up til he was bereft of any emotion.

Amos gave him that look again. "How about we start with the truth? Because you're still making me make the leaps here. Be straight with me."

Now Tiberius was simply confused on top of everything else. Why didn't his friend believe him? He obviously was having trouble getting this out, to Tiberius there was no reason to make any of this up.

"What? Well, I......Merlin....."
He blurted out the following with eyes shut and with incredible speed.
"If you want me to just say it, fine, I'm and Animagus"

He stared at the floor waiting for his response.

Amos' eyes flew open and he bit the inside of his cheek to stop himself from yelling within earshot of the corridor. He'd suspected that this was the case when Tiberius had mentioned the spell, but to hear him admitting it was just... Amos couldn't put his feelings into words.

"What the hell were you thinking?" the younger boy hissed. "It's illegal, Tiberius! If you got caught, you'd be in huge trouble, probably expelled!"

This simply was not going according to plan, or to Tiberius’ favor.

“You think I don’t know that? Why else do you think I’ve kept it a secret all these years!”

As he was speaking he became suddenly aware that Amos might be feeling a sense of betrayal. He dropped the defensive tone and continued on.

“I....I’ve been meaning to tell you. Really I have. I just wasn’t sure how you’d take it. Obviously not well. I’m sorry.”

After a brief silence, he continued on.

“But don’t think I regret it. If I could have done something differently, I would have told you before, but I still would have done it. So that's how I was searching the forest, only I cocked it up by injuring myself by hitting a tree. I had to open my leg satchel and rough up my clothes to make it look not so odd, but I did too much and it looked even more suspicious. I'm sorry I lied to you before. But now that you know, you won't tell anyone, will you?"
