Summary: Abby and Al have their study date

Practice has been brilliant; the Chaser squad finally was able to master the barrel roll monte play they'd been working on since the previous season. They ran the play about a dozen times before practice ended and right before their beater hit a bludger at them, hitting Abbie hard in the thigh. While it didn't look bad when she jumped into the shower, afterward it started to make her muscle feel stiff. After applying some bruise paste and slipping into a loose trousers with her Harpies jumper.

Slinging her bag over her shoulder, she walked with a slight limp toward the Great Hall where she was suppose to meet Al. As she got closer, she felt herself slowing down out of nerves. Even though they'd been seeing each other since right before classes, Abbie still found herself a little unsure of how to act around him. Most girls greeted their boyfriends, which Abbie wasn't sure if she could call Al that, with some sign of affection; a kiss, a hug, something. And here she was about to see him and she had no idea what to do, so she just smiled and waved when she saw him.

Abbie's shyness was a bit of a relief to Al, who found himself tongue tied and trying to impress her nearly every time they met up. When she waved, he did the same and when she came close enough he offered to take her bookbag and nodded toward the library with a cock of his eyebrows. "Shall we?" He asked, slinging her bag on top of his on his right shoulder and taking her hand gently with his left.

"So, after studying, would you want to eat dinner at the Ravenclaw table tonight?" He also wanted to ask if she'd like to take a walk around campus before it got too dark or cold, and it was already October.

Even though Abbie thought it was silly that boys insisted on carrying girl's bags, she let him take hers because no matter how she wore it the books inside kept hitting the bruise on her thigh. "Sure," she said, smiling a little bigger.

As he took her hand, a small blush flushed on her cheeks. "Yeah, I can do that." Right after she spoke, one of the beaters from the Slytherin Team began making some crude suggestions. Her first impulse was to let go of Al's hand and beat the hell out of him. Instead, Abbie turned and shot him a glare as she slipped her wand from her sleeve; the pants she wore didn't have pockets and she hated keeping her wand in her bag.

Silently, she flicked her wand and said a spell. The beater was in the middle of demonstrating some hip movement when his whole body snapped together and he felt face forward onto the stone floor.

"Uhh...let's walk a little faster," she suggested, squeezing his hand and pulling him forward as she half walked, half jogged away from the accident. "So, how was your morning?"

Al jogged along with Abbie in front of him, laughing to himself, "I'm pretty sure you dislocated his nose with that fall," he said under his breath, his eyes bright with mischief (a Ravenclaw he may be, but he was also a Potter and a Weasley).

Reaching the library, Al stopped Abbie before she made it through the door and pulled her to the side of the corridor, into the shadows of one of the arches. Looking suddenly earnest he asked, still holding her hand, "Should I not?" He asked, indicating their hands. If she had gotten so flustered from the guffawed comments of a Slytherin just because he was holding her hand, then clearly they had to figure something out.

"Maybe now his face won't look quite like a baboon's arse," she said, still grumbling a little. He's just trying to get under your skin, Longbottom. It's Quidditch season and they are better at head games than any other team. Abbie was surprised when he pulled her away from the library door and even more when he pulled her into the shadows of the arches.

"No! I mean, yes! Or no...it's fine. I don't mind holding hands. I mean, you know, holding hands is fine, but snogging in front of the entire castle. That isn't all right. Not that snogging isn't like acceptable, just not in public and Oh sweet Merlin, I've become a babbling idiot."

Using the hand that wasn't still in Al's, Abbie smacked herself in the forehead. The truth was that sex made her uncomfortable and she wasn't good at dealing with things that made her uncomfortable. Plus, there was the whole Lily issue; she still hadn't gotten around to telling her, partly from Abbott's uncertainty of what she and Al were to one another. The other part was out of fear that Lily would be angry with her and rightly so.

"Look, I'm not good at this; the dating thing," she said honestly. "It's nice holding hands with you. I just don't want to make a big show about it."
