I've got something to say
Date: October 13th 2025
Characters: Brigid and Riley
Location: Riley and Ryan's place
Private/Public: Private
Rating/Warnings: who knows?
Summary: Riley invited Brigid over for dinner. Except she doesn't know it's a romantic one.

Riley shifted on his feet nervously and looked around, hoping he had not forgotten anything. Checking out one last time the chicken lasagna in the oven and then walked back to the table to make sure he had not forgotten to put the cloth on the table so it wouldn't burn as he put the dish on it and he quickly realized that something was missing. Candles!

Getting a couple of candles and settling them on the table, Riley lit them after looking at the clock. It was almost time for Brigid to arrive. Smoothing the front of his shirt nervously, he decided he preferred to have a jumper on.

Since she only had one class that morning, she spent the rest of the afternoon at work helping out with one of pre-season sale Christmas orders. Merlin, how did it get to be October so quickly? she thought. Brigid pulled the neck of her sweater dress higher up her neck as she strolled towards Riley's flat.

A burst of freezing air hit her tight covered legs, forcing her to pick up the pace. Her ankle boot heels clicked across the cobblestones and she rushed to get out of the cool air. Rounding the building, she charged up the stairs to the door and knocked.

"Hi," she said when he opened the door. Leaning in, Brigid gave him a quick kiss as she stepped inside. "How was your day?"

Closing the door behind Brigid, Riley blushed lightly as she kissed him. Even if they were openly dating (and had been for a while), he couldn't stop his cheeks from coloring like that. Sometimes he did wonder how the heck he ended up with such a wonderful girl by his side but that night he absolutely did not want to voice any kind of insecurities.

"A little hectic. Funny thing I should say that considering I'm considered an artist." Riley replied, chuckling. "How about you? Anything interesting happened today?" he asked, walking towards her and touching her arm.

Once inside, she rubbed her hands together to get rid of the chill she caught outside. "Hectic how?" she asked. Her eyes automatically scanned for signs of his brother before landing on the table. Curling up into a smile, she turned towards him at his touch.

"Apparently, squabbling children at this year's Christmas card theme," she replied with a small chuckle. "I spent at least an hour going through one family's photos trying to find one when they kids weren't fighting."

He noticed that Brigid was looking around to see if Ryan was there or not and her reaction did not go unnoticed. "Well, each family is different but on that point they kind of all are alike. It's usually hard to find a good picture where everyone is at their best." And that included the Finnigans. How many times had Lavender bothered her youngest son to at least give a smile on the family picture?

Leaning in, he kissed her forehead. "Hectic in the way that they are starting to plan the Christmas concert and I am slightly nervous about playing in public. They also have chosen a few difficult pieces and I am not sure how well I will perform. Nothing too bad, I promise." he said, winking at her as he rubbed her arms a little to warm her up.

"And you look beautiful tonight."

She supposed he was right; none of the family photos had everyone looking their best. Rosmerta and Brigid made their own Christmas cards every year since her mother only sent them out to a handful of close friends and employees. "But it shouldn't be that difficult to have one photograph where everyone is at least looking at the camera," she pointed out.

Unaware how cold she became during the walk until Riley began to rub her, she let out a small sigh of contentment. "Thank you," she said.

"Christmas concert? Merlin, can you believe people are already talking about Christmas?" she asked. Brigid told her mum she'd help out with Halloween since her Tuesday classes were late, which meant she couldn't even begin to think about winter holidays until the last of the autumn ones passed. "I'm sure you will be brilliant no matter what."

Riley wrapped his arms around her shoulders, bringing her closer to him. "Do you want some wine? Or would you prefer tea?" he asked politely, leaving the choice to her between a cold or a warm beverage.

"We practice a great deal for that concert, it'll be a big one. Most levels will have their own pieces and we've got a few as an ensemble. It will definitely be something worth sitting hours for." He said before kissing her forehead. "If I keep you a ticket, will you come?" Riley asked teasingly, smiling as he looked at her.

Instinctively, she wrapped her arms around his middle as he wrapped his arms around her shoulders. Even though tea probably would have warmed her up faster, she asked for a glass of wine.

"Oh. I'm not sure I can fit you into my schedule," she said straight faced. Tilting her head up towards his face, Brigid gave him another kiss before replying her face broke out into a huge grin. "Nothing could keep me from being there."

After another swift kiss, she pulled away. "I can't wait to see you play!"

She pretended not to hear the whimper only because she felt a similar feeling of loss as she pulled away. There was something about being held that she just loved. As much as her hormones raged, Brigid worried about pushing him since she was his first. Plus, the last time she was someone's first, it was her first too. She felt so conflicted between her head and her hormones.

"Is this how you imagined your first time? The two of us debating on whether or not to eat first?" she asked. Reaching out, she took his hand. "What would you say to a sleepover? That is if you have a t-shirt I can borrow?"

Riley bit his lower lip. "I actually didn't really.." he tilted his head slightly to the side and his cheek blushed darkly. "I never really imagined anything that lead to that point." He had thought about Brigid, that was for sure and in all kinds of positions too. He wasn't sure how realistic it was though.

"A sleepover, huh?" he asked, feeling like it was a really awesome idea. "I do have plenty of t-shirts, you even get to pick the color." Such a wonderful idea. He'd get to spend the night with Brigid.

She blushed as well when she noticed how deeply red his cheeks became. "I'm sorry. I just felt...thought..." That it was going that way, she finished silently.

Smiling, Brigid nodded. "Brilliant," she said. "I should warn you though; I steal the covers."

She gave him a swift kiss while giving his hand a squeeze. "Now, I am dying to try some of Riley's chicken lasagna."

"Food, right.." he said chuckling. They had both been a bit distracted by that talk about possibly move forward or not. Cutting the lasagna with a spatula and setting some on a plate for Brigid.

Snapping his fingers, he went back to the kitchen to get the fresh green salad he had under a spell to keep it from wilting before cutting himself a piece of lasagna too. "Want some salad?" he offered as they both sat down to enjoy their meal together.

"You can steal the covers all you want, by the way. I don't use them all that often." Riley was hot blooded enough to always be very warm, even during winter.

"But, um.. about.." he wondered if he really should ask her what she had meant about her first statement. "That first statement of yours? You kind of trailed off and didn't quite finish."

She flashed him another smile before settling into the chair and waiting for him to sit himself. The lasagna smelled wonderful. Mum might like something like this... she thought as she nodded to his offer of a salad. Once he was seated, Brigid took a bite of the meal and let out a sigh; it was as good as it smelled.

"I tend to get cold easily, so it's nice to know you can keep me warm," she said after taking another sip of her wine. Before she could take a bite of the salad, Riley asked her about her statement from before. Swallowing, she set her fork down.

"I was going to say that it felt like that was the way we were heading. I'm finding myself less and less inclined to tell you to slow down or stop," she confessed.

Riley thought it was pretty convenient that he'd be able to keep her warm during winter nights. Maybe she would like it enough to sleep over often. Before he could answer her about that, she explained what she had meant and he understood right away.

"Maybe it's a good thing we talk about it, actually." he said as he cut his piece of lasagna into manageable mouthfuls. He had talked to his mother about his dilemma concerning Brigid and she had told him he should discuss that with her.

So that's what Riley was doing, he was initiating the discussion.

"It seemed to be headed that way, yeah." he said nodding. "But when I was saying that I didn't really imagine.. I meant more like, I don't spend time elaborating on the romantic details of the setting.. usually." Sometimes he did though, especially on a night like this. Whenever they would spend time together, Riley could usually not resist replaying it in his mind with an alternate ending.

She smiled when he agreed to keep her company while she pulled ales and shook up cocktails. Before she could thank him, he began to ask her if she'd dress up as something hideous. "I don't know what I'm wearing; Mum picked it out," she said. "All I can promise that it is not something scary." It may possibly be slutty though.

Chuckling, she shrugged. "I don't know yet. I'd have to pick out my fairy tales first. Maybe I'll design costumes for all the villains."

Riley let out his breath and sipped his wine again. "Nothing against witches, but Gramps kind of marked me for life with the Wizard of Oz." he answered, shaking his head before taking Brigid's hand. "I'm sure you'll be gorgeous. Your mother wouldn't dress you in a potato sack, I'm sure."

"Villains, huh? Um.." he said, searching his brains for villains and all he could come up with was Darth Vader and the Joker. Neither seemed appropriate. "I can't come up with anything, but you'd made a really fantastic Snow White."

Brigid's first thought was that she certainly hoped he didn't have anything against witches seeing as she was one. Then she realized, he was talking the muggle interpretation of witches. "No, no potato sack. Although, my mum comes up with some very interesting costumes."

She smiled at the compliment and opened her mouth to thank him when an idea popped into her head. "What about a play on names? Snow White in a gown of snow; Cinderella in a gown of cinders and embers. Not literal, but using those colors and textures?"

Riley's eyes lit up with interest at Brigid's idea. "What about the Sleeping Beauty? Oh, a cloudy dress! I mean, something that would look like she's wearing a cloud?" He didn't know if that made sense, or if it was even possible.

"Before you think I ever had interest in Fairy Tales, I should tell you that my Gran on Mum's side was always very big on reading to us. She said it made smarter kids. Except she had always wanted granddaughters and knew very little about boys." he cleared his throat and finished his wine. "The 21st century has been.. good for Little Red Riding Hood though. She was rarely a little girl anymore. Might be a good thing to go back to the little girl?" He had always liked that story, which had taught him not to speak to strangers, and had been horrified to discover a few years before of all the 'new' incarnations of the fairy tale. A very sexy young woman being chased by a wolf suddenly took an interesting meaning.

"Exactly!!" she replied as her head began to plan out an one shoulder bubble dress with lots of puff with hints of blue and grey in the whiteness. "What about a riding jacket for Little Red Riding Hood? Instead of a dress, it could be a pair of horseback riding pants with shiny boots and a smart red riding jacket with a hood on it."

With her mind wrapping around the whole fairy tale idea, she only heard half of what Riley said. Something about his grandmother and reading. Feeling guilty about it, she apologize quickly while setting her fork down on the plate.

"I am so sorry, Riley, but I need..." Brigid's voice trailed off as she stood and head for her bag, internally grateful to herself for thinking to pack her sketchbook and charcoals. "I'm afraid I'll forget something if I don't get it down now. I'm sorry."

Abandoning the rest of her food, she began sketching four blank female forms lightly on the page before adding fluid lines of the clothing ideas. Next to each figure she wrote the name and a few words to go with it. At that moment she just wanted to get something on paper and as her hand flew across the page, Brigid forgot she was on a date.

Riley had reservations about Brigid's idea of Red Riding Hood but it was her assignment, not his. As Brigid sketched, he sat back and looked at her with interest a small smile on his lips.

He perfectly understood what it was like to just have to write something down. With a wave of his wand, he made a few music sheets fly his way to him in the kitchen and he scribbled a few notes, his whole body picking up on the mood.

Brigid was so beautiful when she allowed her passion run rampant like that, he forgot they were on a date too. It was like his pen was writing by itself.

His cheeks darkened and he licked his lips with delight as it looked at the partition forming on his sheet. Sure it was for violin and he wasn't too sure he'd be able to play it, even if he was getting better at it, but he'd practice until he could play it himself, he thought. There was no way he'd allow someone else to play this but himself.

She did her best not to feel confused or alarmed when he bolted out of the bedroom. Instead, she sat on the bed to slip off her boots. When he returned, Brigid just finished tucking them against the side of the bed. Looking up just as he pulled off his jumper, she flashed a slightly wicked grin.

She stood and crossed closer to Riley, her hand reaching out and taking hold of his tie. With slow deliberate movements, she pulled the tie knot loose before slowly sliding the tie off his neck. "I don't think you'll need this anymore either," she teased. "Breathing is more important."

Riley didn't have the time the time to realize what she was doing until the tie was off and his breath caught in his throat. She was so close, just like earlier, except that now clothes were coming off. He tried to answer her but nothing came out but panting noises.

"I-I.." he felt lightheaded again and he blinked. Riley wrapped his arms around her middle and leaned in, kissing her lightly, almost tentatively. He felt awkward, being undressed by Brigid, but it wasn't unwanted.

While she hadn't meant to send Riley into a panting mess, Brigid knew from experience that ties got in the way. "Breathe," she whispered.

As he leaned in, she tilted her head up. The light, tentatively kiss felt lovely and sweet. The tie fell to the floor as she ran her hands up his chest until they wrapped around his neck.

"Easier said than done.." he whispered after the kiss. Realizing that simply taking his tie off wasn't going to bring more air to his lungs, he unfastened the two first buttons of his shirt, letting a sigh of relief. He didn't mind dressing up, but his clothes were starting to be slightly small. Hopefully, he'd stop growing soon.

It didn't take him long to come to the conclusion that he had no idea what he was supposed to do. One thing was sure, his trousers too were getting a but small and not because of any growth spurt.

Brigid as to agree with his statement. When things got too overwhelming, remembering to breath wasn't always on her mind. Watching him undo the top two buttons on his shirt, her fingers dipped into the back of the collar and made small circles at the base of his neck with her pinkies.

"Come here," she whispered, kissing him again as she slowly stepped backwards closer to the bed. As nice as it was standing there with his arms around her, the bed would offer more comfortable.

Not so tense anymore now that they were kissing again, Riley followed Brigid towards the bed, trying not to get nervous again. The rational part of his brain was starting to panic, wondering if maybe they were rushing things but mostly he was thinking it was alright. They had waited a while, spent some time getting to know each other and really it was for the best.

No regrets!

Letting out a moan, he followed Brigid until they reached the bed, then he pulled back and bit his lower lip. "Are you sure about this?" he asked, trying to confirm whether she really wanted this or not. He'd rather have sex three months later and be sure she was really ready, then doing it right then and feel guilty because she wasn't.

He'd never forgive himself if he hurt her in any way.
