Riley protested when his twin grabbed his parchment and almost ran to the piano in the corner of the room. He swallowed when Ryan smoothed out the paper before playing the same exact piece, but doubling the tempo. His eyes widened as he heard the major difference and realized what his mistake had been.
He had written the duet backwards. "Oh.." he whispered, blinking. He couldn't feel the violin the same way he felt the cello in his writings and it was probably why. He had, with enthusiasm, written the cello part first, forgetting that cello was an accompaniement instrument, not a main part instrument and that in a duet, you should write the main part first!
"That's why I stopped playing violin." he reflected, frowning. Two instruments too similar, like piano and violin, just did not give as good result in his mind as Piano and cello, or violin and cello. It was difficult to explain, but the violin and the piano had way too many possibilities for tempos and ranges.
Watching Ryan's fingers touch the keys of the piano, almost caressing them, Riley fought hard the urge to beg his brother to 'please, please play Moonlight Sonata for me, Ryan, pleeeeeeaaaaaaaase... That's how he used to ask for it anyway.. No doubt he would try a different approach now that they were adults.
