How it all began and almost didn't [Oct. 23rd, 2012|05:55 pm]

I had come home from school with what I actually considered a cool assignment. I had to do a family background thing. I came home with an interest in just how I ended up with things how they were. I walked in the house looking for mom or dad, paper in hand. "Mom? Dad?" I looked at my watch and noted that one of them should be home already or should be any second now. So I dropped my bag by the stairs and I went into the kitchen to grab a drink. Assignment aside I've always been curious like any kid I want to know how my parents met and so forth, I've just never really thought to ask too many questions about it.

I was sitting in the kitchen sipping my drink and looking over the assignment paper while I waited for either parent to come home.

It's been about two weeks since Luke got into trouble at school. I came home from work today to find him on the phone with what sounded like a girl. I smiled at him and headed into the kitchen waiting for him to be done. Lindsey was still at the office. I grabbed a drink and sat down at the breakfast island and waited for Luke to finish his call so I could talk to him.

Luke's In Trouble [Jan. 28th, 2012|07:15 pm]

It had been another long day at work the next day when I got a call from Luke's school, saying something about him getting in trouble with some of his classmates. I didn't get the full story over the phone, but I did get told that it was something about a prank that he pulled. Well, at least he didn't start a fight. Still, it was irritating that I had to take the afternoon off work to go and deal with this. I also knew that Lilah would be extremely pissed that she had to take time off as well.

Soon enough I was sitting outside of the principal's office with Lilah. I knew that Luke was inside the office with the other kids that he had gotten in trouble with. Lilah and I were just waiting to be called in.

Like father like son [Oct. 6th, 2011|10:27 pm]

I'd convinced Lindsey to stay in LA and we soon took over the firm's LA branch, married and had a son.

I still don't understood why Lindsey's mother used to worry and fuss over him and his siblings. He was just a kid, the oldest of six kids and he was hell on wheels from the day he was born. She always told him that he was born to run and that he was never satisfied with what he had he always had to have more. Like when he was sixteen and he'd just gotten his license, three hours after he had that card he grabbed his friends and took a off for the open road, only to get stopped on a road just outside of some town in the middle of fucking nowhere. he'd gone before the judge who had a thing for making balloon animals. he'd stood in that little courtroom and tried to lie his way out of the speeding ticket, only to have the man tell him that he had two more years to be a kid and to enjoy it while it lasted, because kids grow up way too fast and that life was a speed trap.

He and I don't think ever fully understood what he meant until now. I'd been told that story one night over drinks about four months after we'd been seeing each other. At the time I found it kind of sweet and amusing, now I'm afraid that our son will end up like Lindsey.

Our Son Luke is sixteen and it seems like just yesterday I was holding him in my arms. I was driving home from work listening to the radio. I turned the radio on as it started to play a song that reminded me of Lindsey.

"How he got that GI Joe in the church this morning

I don't know but he ain't listening to the preacher

Like his mama taught him to

She's wanting me to cross the aisle

Go, sit over there with him awhile

Make him turn around and sit up straight

Stop playing in the pew

To watch him is all that I can do

Cause I look at him and I see a boy

And I see trouble and I see joy

See innocence and headstrong

And a heart full of dreams

I look at him and I'm so amazed

I'm so proud and then sooo afraid

That the apple didn't fall quite far enough from the tree

Yeah I look at him and I see me

Already says when he grows up

He's gonna have a big ole truck

And I can see him getting stuck

On some private property

He'll take chances, he'll take dare's

And keep his mama and me scared to death

When he goes out at night

You know I'll bet we'll never sleep

I guess I get what my dad got from me

Cause' I look at him and I see a teen

Having fun doing stupid things

I see roadblocks I see mistakes

I see heartbreak he can't see

I look at him and I'm so amazed

I'm so proud and then sooo afraid

That the apple didn't fall quite far enough from the tree

Ohhh I look at him and I see me

I look at him and I see me

Breaking down one day

As he packs up all his things

To move awayyyyy

I look at him and I'm so amazed

I'm so proud and then sooo afraid

That the apple didn't fall quite far enough from the tree

Yeah I look at him and I see me"

I soon pulled into the driveway, I turned off the car and got out. It'd been a long day and all I wanted to do was have a drink and be able to relax. I just hoped that Luke had managed to stay out of trouble, but he's just like Lindsey was at that age so I'm not holding my breath. So far he's doing better than his grandfather and Lindsey combined, because he has yet to spend a night in jail.
