(Lucy & OPEN) Searching for food & people watching Who: Lucy & OPEN What: Searching for food & people watching Where: The streets, in the heart of London When: Thursday morning Warnings: None.
The sound of horse's clopping down the cobblestone road were what Lucy woke to that morning. Groaning the doll-like girl brought a hand to her head and pushed away the stray strands of fire-colored hair that stuck to the morning dew on her forehead. It really was a glamorous life for Miss Cunningham. She wanted nothing more than to stay on top of the pile of garbage and sleep forever, but there were things to be done today. And then, as if on cue, her stomach growled.
"I know, I know," she told herself softly, "You're hungry." Rising to her feet she brushed off her dirty and well-worn dress and looked around, trying to figure out exactly where she was. "Three days without eating, I would be concerned if you weren't hungry."
Bright green eyes darted around suddenly. Had she just been talking to herself? Well, that was certainly a new habit. She blamed it on the hunger as she made her way down the road to a crowded spot where most of the homeless went to wash up at a well. With a few grunts she managed to push her way to the front of the group, giving small nods to a few of her fellow prostitutes as she washed up her hands and face. It was always a race to get washed up and out of the way as quickly as possible, as everyone had to be ready in time for work. Not Lucy, though. She had the days free to do as she pleased.
Digging a coin out of the leather pouch in her bodice she frowned. It was the last of the money, but she had no choice. Sighing the lonely eighteen-year old made her way to a bakery and bought the biggest thing she could afford; a small slice of plain bread. Nibbling as she walked her ever watchful eyes took in the morning scene. It wasn't so early anymore and the upper class citizens were starting to appear, the bright colors of their dress popping against the brown and gray dirty of the lower class.
And that's when she saw it. The most beautiful shade of blue that her eyes had ever laid sight on. It must have been silk from the way it managed to shine in the light of the rising sun. And the beading on the neckline was exquisite, Lucy just wanted to touch it. But she knew better than that. She knew to keep her hands to herself; even if she had just washed them. The local ladies and the constables didn't have much patience or respect for her type, so it was safest to just stay out of the way.
Of course, staying out of the way might have been much easier had she been watching where she was going. Suddenly she felt herself collide with another figure and without even knowing what had happened she found herself falling down to the sidewalk with an "Ophf!" of surprise and pain as her bottom collided with the ground.
Summary: Lucy wakes with a hungry stomach and goes in search of food. Along the way she manages to bump into a few people.
