"I always encourage Sirius to be civil," Remus responded, something of a smile pulling at the corners of his mouth. "But it's not a trait he's always known for." It wasn't really all that amusing, but -- well, Alphard just didn't know Sirius when he was this old. He couldn't have known that it was Remus was typically trying to get Sirius to be a little more well-behaved and not teach Helga words like shagging or to try and get him not to tell everyone that they were shagging, but Sirius had a will of his own. Remus couldn't imagine anyone ever changing and if he was being entirely honest, he wouldn't want Sirius to change in the slightest, lewd mouth and propensity for embarrassing situations included.
He couldn't help but doubt Alphard's statement about them all being good people, but he said little of it. He had met Walburga Black when she had been here before and he was convinced that a crueler woman had never lived. She might just be a spoilt girl now, but he could sometimes see that edge in her. It was the same edge that he saw in Sirius that, he was certain, if Sirius had remained in his family, would have flourished.
There was one other thing on Remus' mind though and he didn't know if it was his place to say, but he hated to waste the opportunity now that Alphard was standing in front of him.
"You should know that Sirius thinks quite highly of you though," Remus said hesitantly. "I'd for there to be anything that gets in the way of you having a relationship with him." He did mean Walburga and Orion, but he also meant himself. He didn't want Alphard to stay away from Sirius just because he disapproved of them being together.
