It was strange that they kept coming to him. He could only suspect that Sirius had been diligent about not keeping in contact with his family. He didn't know if he was in touch with his uncle at the moment. They hadn't discussed it recently. He didn't like it. He felt like he was betraying Sirius somehow, trying to continue explaining Sirius to them. He was tired of the way they didn't understand. Maybe they couldn't understand. After all, that was why Sirius had left.
But he had been hopeful that Sirius would find an ally in Alphard. He had before, after all. Alphard had left him so much money - proof that he hadn't disapproved of Sirius. That clearly wasn't the case now. He ran a hand over his face, feeling a bit trapped. He didn't like all the magic that Alphard seemed to be performing. He tried to remember that his own wand was close at hand. It didn't help.
It was also somewhat offsetting that Alphard kept calling him Mr. Lupin. That seemed to be a title that still belonged to his father, but he didn't know how to ask Alphard to just call him Remus.
"Sirius just never has held with any pureblood notions," Remus said finally. "His parents didn't like that. They kept trying to make him conform. And instead of doing that, they pushed him away. He left. They made it quite clear that he wasn't their son after that." He let out a quiet sigh. "I don't know what else you want me to tell you. He won't forgive them for what they did, whether they remember it or not."
