Scorpius would never admit it, but he liked it when James rambled on. The Potter didn't run his mouth just to hear the sound of his own voice (unlike some people he knew). Even if they were scattered and spontaneous, James had some insightful thoughts to share. Scorpius paused and let the words sink in before he spoke.
"I won't," Scorpius promised, voice low. "Even if everyone's afraid of death," he murmured. "I've mostly accepted it as a necessity. If everyone lived forever, there would be no resources left for the future generations. I'm still afraid of it, but– it's not just that..." Scorpius closed his eyes. He knew that wasn't the only reason why the dream bothered him.
Digging the other reason out, however, would be nothing short of difficult.
