It was getting seriously nippy out. When he had left the house for his shift earlier, Zach had noticed the state of his winter coat; buttons were missing and there was a ridiculous tear up the side; the last time he had worn it, it had been forcibly removed. In too much of a hurry, Anthony hadn't taken great care, and Zach hadn't cared either. Now, almost a year later, that jacket was all that he had left of his time with Anthony Goldstein, the only evidence that he had ever been here and that Zach had ever...
It had been set aflame behind the house, at the cover of the wind. Zach had stood there waiting for it to burn to unrecognisable cinders before heading in to work.
But now it was freezing. On his break, Zach took the opportunity to go head over to the shop to buy a new coat. And it really was freezing. He gave a hard shiver, one that twisted his neck painfully as he rubbed his arms harder and hurried to the shop.
It was seeing the blond walking in his direction up ahead of him that had Zach stopping in his tracks.
"That-" It can't be, he told himself. It just couldn't be. Glued to the spot, Zach considered running across the street or ducking into the nearest building, no matter what it was, to keep from being seen, but was ultimately unable to do so. Even the knowledge that Cedric would be upon him in a few steps if Zach didn't run didn't manage to unglue him from that very spot.
That was Cedric. And he wasn't a child. He was Cedric. Cedric as Zach had last seen him. As anyone had last seen him.
