Thank Merlin for Ariana.
With their magic, it would have been an easy task to clean the house, to prepare enough food to feed however many people decided to show up, and to make sure that they both looked presentable. Gellert liked to consider himself skilled at balancing several different tasks at once, but he could admit that this would have proved a bit of a challenge even to him, were it not for Ariana's assistance in making sure everything was dust-free. She had even made a pie. Whether or not it was edible remained to be seen, of course, but it filled space on the table. He recalled her making a pea soup some months ago that was rather tasty, so perhaps he would be pleasantly surprised. Without magic, she could not possibly have ruined it -- could she? (Maybe she could. Albus certainly seemed capable of destroying any culinary dish at which he tried his hand, magic or no.)
And though Gellert doubted anyone would have much cause to go in there, Gellert cleaned the bedroom. He took special care to find a way to hide what needed to be hidden (no small task, given their lack of magic, though fortunately the precautions he had set up before their powers had been bound were still in effect). Some items he hid better than others. Albus had invited Potter, after all, and if anyone were to go snooping around, it would be him. Gellert might as well make it worth his while.
Gellert was downstairs by the time people were meant to begin arriving, placing the final plates of food on the table and wishing for the thousandth time that there had been some way to avoid this debacle. It would have been embarrassing, this display, had Gellert ever experienced chagrin before in his life. As it was, Gellert still hoped it was over quickly and without incident.
