Entry tags:bill weasley, fleur weasley

Who: Fleur and Bill
What: He has things to tell her in person
When: Saturday night
Where: Fleur's cottage
Rating: TBA

Fleur had spent the afternoon baking as a final farewell to her solitude. With any luck, she'd split the cake in quarters and deliver a quarter to each child and then share the last with Bill. HIs response to the journal entry bothered her though. There was something he needed to tell her in person. Something about Victoire. Wondering did not sit well.

Taking the cake out of the oven, she took a deep breath, trying to calm down. It was likely something foolish, something silly. After all, he wouldn't have kept anything that crucial away from her. She'd set the cake down and had begun to retrieve the ingredients for the icing when she heard the door open.

"Bill?" she asked. Had her cottage mate arrived, she was certain he'd forgive her mistaking the identity seeing as he was married here as well.

"Fleur," Bill answered immediately as he shut the door behind him. He knew that it wasn't common for many people in Lockewood to lock the doors, but he was beginning to wish that Fleur would. He didn't like the idea of any of the Death Eaters slinking about outside her cottage. He was aware of the fact that he was being overprotective, but his mentality was still stuck firmly in war-mentality: it was better to be too cautious.

He slipped inside, finding where she was in the kitchen. He wasted no time in catching her in a hug. There was a smile on his face despite the serious topic that had provoked his visit. He was glad to see her - and the smell of the cake was all too alluring. He buried his face against her neck for a moment and inhaled.

"Is this one mine?" he asked teasingly, pressing a gentle kiss against her neck. He pulled back far enough so he could see her then, although his arm was still wrapped about her waist.

While she knew there were Death Eaters in town, she hadn't felt that any of them would dare attack her in her own home, not here. There was something to be said for Rita's supposed control. However, if she thought about it, she'd have to admit it was active denial, an attempt to pretend everything was all right again. That the war was over, that Victoire was an infant.

The moment Bill took her in his arms, the world was righted. Fleur laughed, returning the hug tightly. She'd missed him terribly, even though she needed the time to herself. WHen he buried his face in her neck and hair, she smiled more, sighing softly at the kiss.

"Well, if so, then I shall have to bake another for the children. After all, I have been absent so much, I would hate for them to feel neglected."

"It'll teach them to fend for themselves," Bill said, obviously joking. He finished kissing his way up her neck, pleased to feel her arms around him. He turned them nimbly about after a moment, readjusted his hold on her waist and then boosted her up so that he could slide her onto the kitchen counter. That done, he smiled up at her.

"How're you?" he asked, one of his hands resting on top of her knee, the other moving to curl some of her hair behind her ear. "I've missed you."

And it was true. He had missed her terribly. He simply couldn't imagine his life without her now. When he was younger, he had never thought that he was going to need someone like this. He had always been content to plan his own life, do whatever he pleased. But now, he found that he couldn't even envision planning anything without he - nor did he want to. Everything made a little more sense when they were together.

Fleur laughed before the sounds faded into little gasps and sighs. WHen he boosted her onto the counter, she giggled, smiling down at him and caressing his cheek, no longer worried about his scars.

"I"ve missed you too. I'm good. Ready to face the world again. And," she tapped his nose, "If our children don't know how to fend for themselves at this point, we've already failed. Now it is just about showering them with love."

She adored her family, and having been denied the chance to raise their children, she still felt the overwhelming need to take care of them.

"And you? What mischief have you been into? Hmm?" She reached down to take his hands in hers, frowning as she felt scabs on them, arching a delicate eyebrow as she pulled his hand to look at it.

Bill smiled, shutting his eyes for a moment as he tilted his head into her gentle touch. It was somewhat odd that the scars were becoming a normal part of his life now. He knew that Louis still thought that they looked fresh and new and much worse than when he was from, but Bill could see the way that they had healed as much as they were going to, how the red looked a less angry. He didn't have to worry about being careful with himself anymore, which was a relief; he didn't have to worry about Fleur being careful with him either. He wrinkled his nose up at her.

"I'll consider this showering them with love plan after I've had some cake," Bill teased. He carded his fingers through her hair. "Victoire looks so much like you." He breathed out after a moment. Of course, all of his children looked a lot like their mother, but with Victoire, it was most obvious.

He knew that he had been caught the instant that she looked at his hand. It wasn't something he had openly shared with anybody yet - and considering the lack of repercussions, it didn't seem as if Crouch had told anybody yet either. He didn't know if this was a good thing or not.

"Crouch came over to return your muffin basket," Bill said neutrally.

Her eyes closed as he played with her hair. Having her hair played with had always been soothing, but when Bill did it, so soft and gentle, it was a lover's caress. Her entire body eased into his touch, moving ever so slightly into his hand.

A vague smile came to her lips at the comment about Victoire. "Does she?"

The name Crouch brought the tension fully back to her body and she had to work not to tighten her grasp on his hand. "I wish he would just disappear. WHy can't he leave?" She knew people had left, so she wondered what it was that kept him in Lockewood.

"She does," Bill affirmed. He kept playing with her hair, letting his fingertips press lightly in against her scalp for a moment. Then, he pushed most of it to the side, so that he could lean and press a heated kiss against the side of her neck, just below where he could feel her pulse beating. He liked being so closer to her, liked the way that she was seated upon the counter.

"I wish he would as well," Bill said with something of a sigh. It was an utter shame that they couldn't rid of Greyback, of Crouch. And it was even worse that they were living with their children. It made Bill worry incessantly. He had only become aware of the fact that he was a father a few months ago and already he was lost as to what to do. He didn't know how to keep them safe, how to keep all the evil in the world away from them. Even out of their own home. And that was a painful and harsh realization. He wanted to be able to cast Greyback and Crouch out himself. Because in the end, a tussle with Greyback in the woods and hitting Crouch into a pulp wasn't really helping.

Fleur tilted her head back as he kissed her, a whimpered sigh escaping her lips. No other wizard had ever elicited the reactions he could. She never questioned it, never wondered. She just knew it was part of why she loved him so much.

She sighed and pulled his hand to her lips, kissing the bruised knuckles. "I just wish Skeeter would understand that she could be destroying lives here. I've heard people go back and never remember, but if someone were to be horribly injured here, what would happen? Would everything just revert?" Having known that her daughter was sleeping in the same cottage as a madman had sent Fleur spiraling into a depression. Still, she'd survived so much, that staying hidden from the world wouldn't help.

"So, is your brawl with Crouch what you wouldn't tell me over the journals?" she asked teasingly. Really, he could have told her the man had been by to return the basket. Even told her that he'd hit him enough to bruise himself. She wouldn't have been upset. But, Bill was from before they were married. Perhaps, and the thought was painful, perhaps he didn't trust her reactions just yet?

"I don't think she much cares," Bill said softly. It wasn't something he particularly liked to admit. It was hard to understand why there were. And maybe that was the entire point. There was no reason. She was just picking them randomly across time and throwing them all together. Maybe she wasn't even picking them. Maybe they had always afforded her a greater measure of control than she really had.

He knew that she wasn't going to like what he was going to tell her. He wished that he had a solution to present as well, because he knew that it was going to absolutely horrify Fleur to hear that their eldest daughter was living with a monster that had nearly tore their family apart. He wished, more than anything, and it was a very strange wish indeed, that he could have told her that the only thing he had been worried about hiding was that he had hit Barty Crouch until his arm had ached. But that wasn't the truth of the matter at all.

"Fleur," Bill said quietly, taking her hand in his own and putting them gently in her lap. He ran his thumb over the band of her wedding ring. "Victoire is living with Greyback."

Whatever Fleur had been expecting, that statement was the furthest from her imagination. She gripped his hands tightly, her vision tunneling to focus on his face.

It took a moment before she could breathe, her voice weak and shaking. She knew she was pale, her hands were cold and clammy which she only knew because his felt so hot against hers.

"No. No, Bill. Crouch, Crouch was bad enough, but...no...not" her head was shaking back and forth, as if she could change it by will alone.

Bill drew her tightly against him as soon as he saw the color drain from her face. He moved one hand to the nape of her neck, bringing her forward so that her face was pressed somewhere between his neck and his shoulder. The other hand he kept in between hers, running his thumb gently over her skin, trying to get her to calm down.

In truth, it only tore him apart all the more that she had to be in such pain. It was bad enough that their daughter was in danger. She was right. This wasn't fair. This wasn't just. She shouldn't have to go through this and Bill would have given anything in that moment to protect her and their children from having to go through anything else.

"We'll be all right," Bill said softly, the words nearly lost, muffled into her blond hair. "We'll get through this."

When he pulled her close, Fleur fought for her hand to wrap both around him and pull him tight against her. Dominique had been living with Crouch, and now she was quiet, distant. That Victoire was now living with Fenrir, the creature who had tried to destroy, tried to end Bill's life was absolutely unheard of.

Burying herself in the flames of his hair, she nodded weakly. "We have to. We have to find a way to stop this. Bill, I can't. I can't just let her do this. I have to...We have to protect her."

Bill ran his hand gently up and down her back. He was glad when she didn't pull away from him. No, it was better this way. If anything, they had to work together on this. He had no doubt that the two of them could sort this out - she was beautiful and competent and they evidently made it through the second war together. If they could survive all of that, everything that he had heard - her trial through the tournament and his attack and what had happened at their wedding - they could get through this as well. They could protect their children.

"We will protect her," Bill promised quietly, turning his head just slightly so that he could press a soft kiss in against Fleur's temple. "Nothing bad is going to happen to Victoire."

Fleur held onto him tightly. At least with Barty, she knew he was psychotic but the man didn't revel in being a mindless killer. Fenrir adored that part of himself.

She nodded, not sure that she agreed with him, but knowing that was what she was supposed to say and do. That and she had to try to believe it. Believing it would give her hope.

"Yes, we'll protect her. Oh Bill, how could this happen? Why our family?"

"Because Skeeter is an old cow," Bill said. His tone was somewhat teasing, but he did mean what he said. She didn't seem to have a scrap of human compassion in her. He didn't know if she had control over who was brought here, but she certainly had control over where they were told to live and where they worked. Skeeter had purposefully put Victoire with Fenrir.

Bill was also aware that it wasn't anything against their family. There were too many situations like this.

At the same time, while he was concerned about protecting Victoire, he knew that he wouldn't be able to stomach if Victoire developed the same kind of relationship with Fenrir that Dominique had with Barty. He didn't foresee such a thing happening, but he already knew that he wouldn't be able to handle it in any shape or form. For him, Greyback had become a physical manifestation of all the violence and evil that the Dark Lord had brought into their lives when he had started both wars.
