Watching her dearest friend carefully, Rowena felt a rare moment of shame. She had been much too hard on Helga after the incident at the hospital, when so many of the Lockewood residents were gravely ill. Her friend deserved her compassion, her understanding, and her acceptance, not her critiques and harsh, judgmental words.
