"I'm sorry to hear that," Blaise said, and was just a touch surprised to find he meant it. He knew what it was like to grow up with a single parent although his mother was a fiercely independent woman. Short of a debilitating curse or illness, he doubted she would ever let anyone take care of her.
"Well, I believe," he answered after just a beat of consideration. "Busy with working, mostly. I was building up my clientele. I work in public relations, doing damage control for Quidditch players and other celebrities. Being a dishwasher here is a steep plummet from that," he added with no small amount of bitterness.
