Who: Marlene, Lily, James When: Tuesday evening, 20th March What: Belated birthday dinner for Marlie! Where: Muggle London
Happy Birthday, now you're one year older Happy Birthday, your life still isn't over Happy Birthday, you did not accomplish much But you didn't die this year I guess that's good enough
Muggle transportation was always such a mystery to James. Oh, he tried to get it down, to seem learned and intelligent with regard to Lily's heritage, but something about the turnstiles and the way that trains sounded, it all threw him right off. Might've had something to do with his disturbingly short attention span these days, but that was another story. Becoming a father and finally accepting it, and then asking Sirius to be their sprog's godfather... it was all so much that James felt he needed to do something in the form of celebration. What better way than to drag Marlene into it for her belated birthday [which he'd completely forgotten about and kicked himself for it later]. If he had any bit of luck, Lily would also appreciate the 'girl time' and might ease up on him with her mood swings once she got a taste of Muggle London again. All in all, it was a brilliant plan. Nothing could possibly go wrong.
Now that they were right outside of Marlene's flat at Wormwood Gardens, James shifted from foot to foot and gave Lily a sly grin.
"This was a great idea. That underground thing — isn't that what they call it, too? Brilliant! — that was something, wasn't it? We need to do this more often. Takes the sting out of not being able to Apparate." The awe in his voice was difficult to miss.
