Running away from his problems wasn't something that Luka usually did, yet it was the only solution he could come up with in the aftermath of what had happened at the party a few days before. His memories of that night had returned in bits and pieces, each one more painful than the last, and the more time he spent thinking the events over, the more justified he felt in avoiding Felix. Whatever had been slipped into his drink had removed the roadblock to his inhibitions and caused him to act on the blossoming feelings he had been experiencing for the other boy; feelings he had thought, at the time, had been reciprocated.
It could have been argued that Luka was overreacting, that he was approaching the situation all wrong by avoiding Felix rather than confront him and discuss what had happened. Yet any time he recalled the soaring sensation of acceptance sink into crushing feeling of rejection, he knew that being around the other boy was a terrible idea, and so he moved around the Institute as if he were a shadow in the hopes of keeping his distance.
The halls of the Institute were usually empty at night time, with its occupants either asleep in their beds or out on patrol, and it was for this reason that Luka had been spending the early hours in the training room alone. It was there that he focused all of his energy on his training, working himself as hard as possible in the hopes of taking his mind off everything save his routines.
That evening, Luka had been working on his aim. He had started with his trusty bow and arrow, the weapon a comforting extension of himself, before setting it aside in favour of throwing knives instead. The target was already littered with weapons by the time Felix entered the room, though Luka was far from finished.
If the unexpected sound of somebody entering the room took Luka by surprise, he made no show of it as he instinctively pivoted on the spot and released the knife in the direction of the intruder. It sailed smoothly through the air, missing Felix's left ear by a few millimetres before it buried deeply into the panelling behind the other boy, closely followed by a second that only barely missed the top of Felix's head.
