Rather than think the customer wasn't up to date on the real world, Shawn let out a genuine, surprised laugh at the comment about Christie's lack of recent publications. "That is the issue with the classic authors, isn't it? They seldom update their portfolio," he joked. He was, actually, also pleasantly surprised by the man's choice of a favorite author.
And pleased to see him grab the suggested title. The man was doing very little to quell the interest awakening in Shawn; the interest that was certain to be futile, all things considered.
When the customer brought all the items to the cash desk, Shawn wondered who the postcard would be for - if it was not merely a keepsake - but he didn't want to overstep by asking. Instead, he took out one of the large magnetic bookmarks - the ones he'd had custommade, with sights of Kinsale on them - and added it to the pile. "This is complimentary. Although you might want to read the book in one breath, a bookmark can come handy." He paused to check out the items. "If you run out of reading material, I would be happy to help you find more."
