Punishment should have humbled Pansy Parkinson-her name had been run through the mud, much of the British wizarding world (even those well outside Hogwarts) had been in a tizzy over her interlude with Ginny Weasley, and people were now divided into those who found her actions despicable and those that applauded her. Of course, the division certainly wasn't in her favor, nor was it a particularly even split, but that hardly mattered to Pansy. What satisfied her the most was her vindication from the Governors. Their public support of her boded well, as did the Supreme Lord choosing Theo as his recruiter for the actual Death Eaters. Pansy wanted that, above so much else, both to prove her loyalty and dedication to the Supreme Lord, and the power that would come from such devotion. Yes, Pansy Parkinson surely had a love affair with power.
She walked down the third floor hallway on her first rounds back from her detentions. She thought back fondly to her detention with Umbridge, in which the two of them had enjoyed a pleasant bit of tea (perhaps a little sweet to her liking, but she hadn't thought it necessary to mention that to the professor) while Susan Bones was punished in earnest. It was quite funny watching her get scratched to bits by the kitten patrol while the professor's pen had written its words. It was almost a bit unfair, Pansy thought. Susan wasn't very attractive at the best of times, surely no one would want her now (no one normal anyway). She smiled a bit to herself as she turned the corner, when up ahead she caught a glimpse of brown hair and pouty lips which made her mouth turn down in annoyance. Mandy Brocklehurst. It hadn't escaped Pansy's notice that Draco had been walking about with Mandy, and though he never said so and she hadn't even really noticed them together, she still had her suspicions. It was plainly obvious to her that Mandy must be a social climber-what else would a girl like that want with Draco? Didn't Draco see that about her? She narrowed her eyes and hurried up to cut Mandy off from the staircase.
"Well, well, Mandy. What exactly are you doing this far away from Ravenclaw, hmm?" she asked, hand firmly on hip, her gaze transfixed on the other witch.
