Lily sat in one of her favourite places within the house- a chair in front of the window that faced their street. The people outside couldn’t see her (or 17 Allente Street) at all, but Lily liked to imagine the names and stories of her neighbours. On the footpath outside, a little blonde girl with pigtails pulled a tiny Crup along on a lead. Lily smiled at the pink bow the poor creature had been subjected to.
If you had told Lily when she was 20 that she would spend the next 16 years of her life in one small little house, she would have thought it would be an absolutely miserable experience. It was, a lot of the time, but she had adapted. That was perhaps the only reason why a grown adult might get so excited about a child, whom she had never met, taking a little dog for a walk.
She swiftly got up and walked to the study, with every intent of pointing out the poor Crup to her husband. “James, come and look! The girl across the street has a new puppy,” Lily exclaimed as she opened the door. The study had been established as James's private place for years, each of the Potters needed their own retreats, but Lily hardly thought he would mind being interrupted for a few minutes.
